BC Liberals returning donations

Post by flamingfingers »

There may be a potential problem in trying to return this guy's donations:

McShane was the managing partner of the Vancouver office, but never was involved in making any of the 24 separate donations spanning five years. He died of cancer on July 17, 2004 at age 49.

How did the name of a deceased accounting executive end up in the B.C. Liberal Party’s disclosures to Elections B.C. for so many years after his death?

“This was an inadvertent administrative error,” KPMG national spokeswoman Tenille Kennedy told theBreaker. “We have been in touch with the Liberal Party, who administers the information, to have this corrected with Elections B.C. as quickly as possible.”

Read the rest here - it's worth it:
http://thebreaker.news/miscellany/dead- ... -liberals/

It took over a DECADE for the ChristyLibs/KMPG to discover this 'administrative (clerical) error???!!

Sheer incompetence on both parts!!

Yes, that's a good one, and just one of many. BTW, I can't help but wonder why Castanet decided to run that 20 year old picture of the Photo-Op Queen. Do you think they were 'persuaded' to do it?

Apparently the RCMP report won't be out until after the election but either way I certainly agree that we need to clean up the political fundraising in this province. The current government hasn't done that and it's a strike against them. If only there were a viable alternative . . .

I don't know if they have identified any yet, but on March 7, Horgan assured McComb they will:

^^ Good. Time to clean up the sleazy fundraising mess. We still may end up with issues but we have to start somewhere and that means getting rid of corporate/union donations.

Well, we could vote the Greens in but Weaver supports the IPPs and is accepting ChristyLiberal ads for the Green Party and seems to be putting up paper candidates in ridings to further split the vote so that once promising option is no longer open......

Urbane -

How do you propose to 'work on them'? Christy won't talk to you unless you have $$ poking out of your pockets. Purchase tickets to her $5,000 'private dinner' just to tell her she needs to stop accepting corporate/union donations? She'd LOVE you for that... [icon_lol2.gif]

One problem is that only a small percentage of people consider this issue to be THE major one. Something like 4-5%. For most people it's the economy and jobs followed by health care and education etc. Another problem is that Clark and the Liberals are very successful at raising money and while the NDP is using some of the same fundraising tactics they're just not getting in the money the way they were four years ago. But on this issue I agree with you. I think that corporate and union donations should be axed. I could be wrong but I think that this will be Christy Clark's last election, win or lose, and perhaps a new leader of the Liberal Party will agree with us.
