The search brought up the word delete 45 times. Wonder why it doesn't matter today.

Personally I blame the IT dept for not logging emails.

showed that certain "journalists" were thoroughly tamed. They failed citizens of BC, either because they wouldn't believe a good friend at the Legislature was corrupt or they didn't care about the misdeeds.

Analysis: B.C. media elites let down the public when they put down Plecas, Mullen

Bob Mackin

Now we know why the alarm bells went-off for Speaker Darryl Plecas, after the Jan. 21 release of his scathing report on corrupt activity in the B.C. Legislature.

The spending scandal has not been the finest hour for some of the biggest names who report for some of the biggest media outlets about provincial politics. Outlets that have lost substantial marketshare over the last decade amid the tango of technological change, corporate media consolidation and newsroom cutbacks.

GARY LENZ (LEFT), EX-SPEAKER LINDA REID AND CRAIG JAMES (COMMONWEALTH PARLIAMENTARY ASSOCIATION)

I have compiled a selection of the goofy groupthink and ludicrous lines that just didn’t age well, beginning the day that Clerk Craig James and Sergeant-at-Arms Gary Lenz were unanimously suspended by the Legislature and the RCMP investigation came to light.

Journalism is an interesting topic but not the topic of this thread. As well, journalists are not to blame for the lack of accountability that led to the suspension of James and Lenz. It was lack of oversight. Oversight that was removed, deliberately removed, by the 1990s NDP government. That was an egregious error which led directly to what we've seen unfold.

Four months before Lenz and James were suspended the premier's office was provided evidence of alleged criminal activity but Horgan didn't want to see it and after his chief of staff saw it he shredded it. Then four months later Horgan pulled a Sergeant Schultz and proclaimed, "I know nothing!" What a gong show.

What 'evidence' was Meggs provided? All Meggs saw was a list of allegations. Unproven allegations. Which shortly was in the hands of the RCMP and 2 special prosecutors appointed on October 1.

Why in over 16 years didn't the BC Libs institute oversight - especially when Doyle raised a ruckus about the abysmal state of bookkeeping in the Leg? Naw, they didn't - they got rid of Doyle instead!!!

You're flogging a dead horse, removed Even Wilkinson has been smart enough to drop it.

removed find out why Linda Reid would not cooperate with LePard - she was Speaker for 4 years so 'should' have had some control, eh?

Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice. There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice, at which there is simply no way to become THAT ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.

What caused the lack of accountability in the Legislature which in fact led to the suspension and ultimate resignations of James and Lenz? Removal of oversight of those officers by the 1990s NDP government. It was an egregious error and one, as I've said previously, that should have been corrected by the Liberals.

What should Meggs have done? He should not have shredded the document that he was given with those allegations but should have turned them over to the police and to the House leaders. Keeping our elected officials in the dark was a big mistake. Do we want accountability or not? I do. Regardless of which government is in power.

Sigh.

What Meggs was given, had he brought it to the RCMP amounted to nothing other than hearsay evidence:

hear·say
/ˈhirˌsā/
Learn to pronounce
noun
information received from other people that one cannot adequately substantiate;

LAW
the report of another person's words by a witness, which is usually disallowed as evidence in a court of law.
"everything they had told him would have been ruled out as hearsay"

^^ No. Not his decision to make! He should have taken the serious allegations made by the Speaker to the proper authorities and to the elected House leaders. He should not have destroyed the document containing those allegations and he should not have deleted the email containing "very important" information.

Makes no difference now anyway. The issue has been dealt with through the appropriate authorities and the trough feeders have been permanently stopped from abusing taxpayer dollars.

I think this thread is about done to death.
