Salmon farms must be tested

Salmon farms must be tested

Who was the clown that allowed the Feds to run our fisheries? It's time British Columbians rose up and demanded the provincial government tell little Justin's boys to stand down and let the BC government take charge now that we have a party in power that cares more about the environment than mega-corporations.

What a win for Andrea Mortenson! She has harped on the need for open pen salmon farms to be inspected, regulated and examined for diseased Atlantic salmon and the effect they make on our wild stocks.

And people actually BUY potentially diseased salmon at the supermarkets!!

Ick!

Hmm.........so nobody cares about our wild Pacific salmon except flaming and me. I had no idea how uninformed the usual Castanet members are regarding the seafood they consume.

This is good news and a huge first step in the goal to get all farm fish pens on land based containment

We can thank our tireless wild salmon advocate, Alexandra Morton for this.

First they ignored Alex then they tried to discredit her and her science , when that did not silence her they took her to court .

Oh, of course.........the old "Let's just do it until we need glasses" response. Typical federal fisheries method of handling BC's concerns.

Apologize in advance for query somewhat off topic:

I heard some time ago of a chum kill in tanks, I think almost a million fish were exterminated by a vandal(s).

Chum are the choice food of the Orcas, a beloved species in BC which are shown off in whale watching tours.

Were culprits ever caught? Will the chum survive this latest assault? How long before those dead chum can be replaced, if at all?

I haven't heard about that. Can you provide a link to the story? Where did it happen?

^^OMG.......that's terrible! And seeing that this happened a month ago, I assume that whoever was responsible was never apprehended. But even if they were, we would likely never hear about it. The media never seems to report follow-ups on this type of story.

Yes, this is the news story re chum killoff

Would be nice to hear if vandals located. I believe they should have to put lots of time in with this nonprofit society, maybe learn something of value to themselves and the natural world they are intent on destroying.

Any follow up info would be nice.
