Re: Daylight saving time. Rant away.
I agree with you completely, and do not view whatever time Washington, Oregon, and California, happen to be on as a justifiable reason to hold off on what we want here in BC.DebSS wrote: ↑Mar 15th, 2022, 8:39 pm I love the idea of longer light in the evenings. Now as for doing business....we have all adjusted to other Provinces being later than us...we adjust. How many of us do business with places in Toronto, or have family in Alberta which is an hour ahead. You figure it out. An hour isn't going to make a big difference in business. Call when the other place is open, set up a meeting like you do now and do it for Pacific, Mountain and Central, Eastern time zones.
As for school, I went to school when it started at 9 and ended at 3, and my parents did just fine working. I went to a friends house before school and waited to walk with them, or came home after school to an empty house ( I did have backup to go to in case of emergency) Now these days, kids have to be driven to school and can't spend an hour or two alone. Daycares adjust there times or the older ones do what they do now just an hour later. I don't see the big deal being made out of it. Kids walk in the dark in the morning or they do in the evening.
The economy is now, and has been for some decades, a global one, and business finds a way to do what needs to be done, regardless of time zones.
Extremely lame excuse Horgan! Cater to your voters and to heck with what US states are or aren't doing.

Re: Daylight saving time. Rant away.
The US already did this once...didnt like it so I assume its going to be even darker for longer around here... I know if they change it to daylight savings then where I live there wont be any sun in my area until at least 10-11 am before the sun hits the house.
Also a few sleep doctors already said that if we were to change it would be best to be on Standard time because the sunlight in the morning is what is needed for our internal clock. waking up to the night is not a normal for human beings.

Re: Daylight saving time. Rant away.
thats the point.
what is the point. the point is that people want more hours of daylight at the end of the day. But if the darkness in the morning is going to affect peoples health and productivity then there may need to be a shift on everyday work/school/social life in the mornings...Maybe work days start later and end later now to shift with the daylight instead.

Just put up dark-out shade or dark-out curtains in the bedroom window/s. Problem solved

I'm protesting by keeping my clocks on daylight time year round. These guys are SO stupid! As if it matters if BC is an hour different than Washington State! BC is an hour different than Creston or Cranbrook or Calgary, and no problem. People adapt. Stop dragging your feet, you morons in Victoria!

Mexico has done away with Daylight Savings Time.
They moved clocks back on October 30, 2022 for the last time. They will not be moving them ahead next spring.
Though a number of northern border cities will still follow American DST schedule.

Here we go again . . .
It's not the biggest issue we have but I think we need to pick one time, daylight or standard, and stick with it. Forget Washington, Oregon, and California and let's make our own sensible decision.

Re: Daylight saving time. Rant away.
It's strange that in this day and age, we as a society find more issues with springing ahead and falling back than we did for decades when most clocks had to be manually changed.
I know they say there are issues with "sleep depravation". Personally I might have a bad night where I wake up and can't get back to sleep for an hour or so. The next day, should I stay in bed ? Stay away from sharp tools ? Not drive all day ?
The further one lives south the less of an impact the sunrise and sunset has on the area.
If we remain on PST on the longest day of the year we would be looking at sunrise at 3:48 AM and set at 8:07 PM
In LA if they remained on PST on the longest day they would be looking at sunrise at 4:42 AM and set at 7:07 PM
Even with DST we will see sunrise at 4:48 AM on the 21st of June. Seems like that hour of sun is going to do much more for me between 8:07 to 9:07 PM, than 3:48 to 4:48 AM.
When the experts talk about sleep we hear we all need 8 or more hours and to accomplish that we should avoid the light of iPads etc. Well I'd think sunlight would big negative to sleep, wouldn't any extension of darkness be beneficial ?
I'd like to see the US adopt permanent DST (for lack of a better term), it would be difficult if they don't. If the western states and BC adopt DST we will still see a change in some TV programing (for example), in that Eastern Standard Time will be 4 hours apart when they return to Standard Time. Now, question ? Why doesn't the entire continent jump one hour ahead and remain ?

I agree. Let's stick with DST and leave it there. I would rather have the added daylight in the evening so you can actually enjoy it, as opposed to it starting to get light at 3:30am in the summer.my5cents wrote: ↑Mar 10th, 2023, 4:41 pmIt's strange that in this day and age, we as a society find more issues with springing ahead and falling back than we did for decades when most clocks had to be manually changed.

Got to wonder if Premier Eby has been communicating with California, Oregon and Washington State, if they have actually decided follow suit.
If not then BC should go it alone and tell those 3 States to go
themselves.
