At precisely 8:30 pm, as I write this, it is 9:30 pm in Fort St John, British Columbia. Next week if I were to write this at 8:30 pm, it would be 8:30 pm in Fort St John, British Columbia as well.

Okay, if the move to permanent Daylight Savings Time is such a difficult hurdle to overcome, how about we all just compromise and move to Mountain time?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As long as we stop springing ahead and falling back.

 (I personally would prefer sticking with Mountain time so it's not 36°C at 10:30 am in the heat of summer.)

I'm questioning the data? (Never trust a self proclaimed "Mooseologist". *wink* )

After witnessing first-hand for the last four years how impossible it is to simply do nothing twice a year; being somewhat pedantic over whether Daylight savings time saves us 0 minutes in red, or no minutes with a grey crosshatch, seems kind of appropriate to me.

I have a new idea after reviewing the map too. Rather than going to permanent DST, why don't we just redefine PST- BC as UTC - 7h. Boom, done! The only election promise I ever expected a gov't to actually follow through on is kept and I sleep better every fall for it.

PS: Add a small yellow dot to the town of Atlin, BC too.

I changed two clocks. My watch does it by itself.
I’d be ok to keep this time change forever.

Had the park to ourselves this morning, other than a couple dozen geese. Saw one other couple walking their dog, so quiet and peaceful this morning.

I've got you beat. My wife volunteers at the Care Closet in Penticton and as a result I'm also a volunteer. I have about 40 watches that I will put batteries in and set today and tomorrow to DST. Plus the stuff around the house, microwave, stove, 4 wall hanging clocks, the car, furnace thermostat, and I'm sure I've forgotten one somewhere.

I agree with you Glacier. In fact in some of my posts I've said ("for lack of a better term")

The term "Daylight SAVINGS time" is a misnomer. The daylight is moved from early morning to late evening. So "daylight extension time" ? I guess.

Unless all of us on the west coast move to the same time zone TOGETHER, there will be problems. Imagine the problems with airline schedules between Seattle and Vancouver if they are in different time zones. Arriving before you left and the missed connections. WE all should switch at the same time, or not at all.

But in a local sense, it comes down to having that extra daylight in the evening in the summer for recreation or sending your kids to school in the dark in the winter. With school districts trying to reduce spending on busing, more kids are walking longer distances along unplowed streets, in morning commute traffic, and it'll be in the dark if we switch to permanent DST. Or we can just continue with switching twice a year.

Most Canadians will wind their clocks forward an hour tonight, but legislation in the United States that could put an end to the seasonal time change is also moving ahead.

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio last week reintroduced the Sunshine Protection Act that would allow states to make daylight time permanent.

If passed, the law would have knock-on effects across Canada with provinces including British Columbia and Ontario waiting on neighbouring U.S. states to ditch the time change before they do so too.

B.C. Premier David Eby says the province wants to remain "in sync" with West Coast American states and he's "very much looking forward to getting rid of daylight saving time."

The U.S. bill, first proposed in 2018, has repeatedly failed to get through both chambers of Congress, and last March it stalled in the House without a vote.

University of British Columbia business professor Werner Antweiler says the latest version of the bill has bipartisan backing and if it passes, B.C.'s time change at 2 a.m. Sunday morning may be its last.

Most provinces as well as the territories of Nunavut and the Northwest Territories will move their clocks ahead one hour early Sunday.

Yukon and most of Saskatchewan keep their clocks the same year-round. Yukon made the switch for the last time in March 2020, and standard time is now permanent there.
I haven't failed until I quit.

I like the time change. I get up an hour later and have breakfast an earlier later than usual.

Gee, I wonder how we manage flights to Alberta and anywhere else in a different time zone?

Just imagine how we can deal with the international date line.

I was just looking up a flight for my next trip and I would land 3 hours after take off, after 13 hour flight.
