Bankrupt in BC, any help?

Post by featfan »

So I`m done.
Got myself far far into debt.
Don`t see a way out other than jail for a few years.
If that is even an option.
Any ideas on where to start?

Bankruptcy isn’t as bad as one would expect. I was self employed and after crushing a couple of vertebrae’s in my neck, then darling wife leaving me shortly after I had no choice but to do it. Established my credit within a few years and havn’t looked back.

It doesn’t hurt to talk to a credit counselor or bankruptcy trustee. You really have nothing to lose now.

You might also want to look at it as a fresh start. I went back to school to study civil engineering after being an electrician for 20 years or so not too long afterwards. The options are vast if you have no financial responsibilities.

Have a friend who did a personal bankruptcy. I think a better option is start a business. Build credit in it. Transfer over some debts to the business. Let the business go deep into debt. If the business goes under. It will not effect your personal credit .

Good luck.

Jail is NOT an option.

Call a trustee that specializes in bankruptcy.

I suggest:
Eddy Wright and Associates.

Have a meeting, take your paperwork, sit down and talk to them. It's easy, they will advise you as to what to do.

Stupid advice. Not even possible actually. No one would extend credit to any small business without a personal guarantee so how would debt be transferred to the business?

Personal debt or business debt? No, jail is not an option. Debtors prison was banished a cpl centuries ago.

The above few passionate posts are the reason that I suggested that you consult a bankruptcy trustee. As well meaning as their advice is, consult a professional in these matters.

go get credit counselling. Lots of free help out there. I had a significant other (girlfriend) a long time ago in a similar position, got herself deep into debt, and was bursting into tears daily after receiving calls from creditors, so I finally took her down to an accounting firm with a bankruptcy arm, and they got her straightened away within a few weeks. No more calls.

I highly advise those out there (both male and female) who are considering marriage that they make sure their fiancé has their debt issues figured out before you go ahead with the marriage. Don't do it after. Because now their debt problems are your debt problems. A lot of people are looking for a "white knight" to bail them out, rather than deal with their own personal issues, or they are looking to make their problems your problems. That's a recipe for a lot of pain.

Go see four pillars in Kelowna. Two of my friends use them and seems to be the only fair company that does work for you. The one guy had $35,000 of debt and they got that down to $7,000 paid back over 5 years so the credit is not smashed for good and they help you gain it back your credit rating that is
