Thanks for the BC Day holiday

Postby flamingfingers » Aug 5th, 2019, 7:07 pm

It's grand to have a holiday in the summer to spend with family and friends or camping, fishing, hiking or just enjoying in every way our great province.

Thank you, NDP premier Dave Barrett!!!

Even better, getting paid double and a quarter today! Thanks Dave!

I seem to recall the first one was August 5, 1974.

^^^In 1974, Surrey MLA Ernie Hall, part of the BC NDP government of Dave Barrett (Premier from September 15, 1972 – December 22, 1975), introduced legislation in the provincial legislature to establish the day as a provincial statutory holiday.

Nice thought, but no cigar:

It’s a move some in the province have been calling for since Family Day was established in 2013.

Starting next year B.C.’s Family Day holiday will be moved to the third week in February to line up with similar holidays in other provinces and the U.S.

“Moving Family Day is the right thing to do for businesses small and large, and is better for families who may be spread out across the country,” Premier John Horgan said in a press release Friday afternoon.

That's a good point.

Horgan just can't leave well enough alone.

Horgan is moving B.C.'s economy into the toilet from the winner's pedestal, too.

Horgan is in fact a large pile of movement. A steaming pile of movement, one could say.

He's always meddling in that which works well, and destroying it with his New Destruction Party policies.

Dave Barrett didn't lose the 1975 election because he was a good Premier, that's for sure. Even creating new holidays didn't help him get re-elected.

Didn't Justin promise us another Statutory Holiday? It was going to be Indiginous Day or something like that. What ever happened to it?
