Good to see EA getting the job.
As someone who once worked in road construction ( not for them ) and now drives for a living, I have to say.
They do some of the best road construction I have seen throughout the province. I am certain their sections will be smother and longer lasting than the rest.

people of the interior are very grateful to the tax payers in the Vancouver area that contribute most of the taxes
to the government so that these highways can be built.

Re: Trans-Canada highway
Bypass? Bypass? Any bypass project will be met with outrage by the Chamber of Commerce in any city that the province wants to bypass. The Chamber has a lot of hotel and restaurant members and they want all the traffic that they can get to be funneled through town and past their businesses. Summertime gridlock is a small price to pay. This leftist talk of sending the traffic around the city is some kinda socialist nonsense. We need it all sent through town. And the slower the better.

"Wow" quite the subject, dear to the heart for me , as well, to most of us. As one of many of us, originals born here in B.C., and our new arrivals, we have all used the "Highways" here in B.C. And frankly at 74 years old, I'd like to comment more on the subject, and I agree with all of your comments. Mine is, the "highways" are satisfactory for 2006, I know, we have to blame ourselves for putting the wrong group in charge [government]. I was living on the coast in 1967-68 around when the Portman Bridge was being built, 24 years old at the time I, [We], knew then that even 4 lanes was to small, the population at that time was more west of the Fraser. I, [we],wanted at least 6 to 8 lanes which even now is to small for the growth. What have we got, the scenic root up the Highway #1 through Hells Gate, Boston Bar, Spences Bridge, Ashcroft, Cash Creek and then North or East, Loved them all very beautiful a must see for everyone, the Highway 3 through Manning Park, Princeton, and North or East to the Okanagan. The Island "s" as we B.C. ers over 74 call it, we know there's more than one Island, been there done that, some of the Highways need work, them [the ones we put in charge] government of B. C. the flavor of the year, I don't know, they all start to blend together like, to one big Greedy Pork Trough, that they get bigger, as in more Supervisors less workers. I think one of the advances we had for access North is Highway 5 the [Coke] in 86 that's what we called it and spelt it [the Highway to Hell] Well that's what we got over 40 years, so I think we have fallen quite far behind compared to where we should be with other coastal Provinces or states on the seaboard coast, and Sunny North are accessible but were way behind the rest. We have to hold them accountable.....Til Later

Had no problem building at least one useless one on WIB land. Don't think I've seen a vehicle use it yet.seewood wrote:I hear you.bb49 wrote:There are six traffic lights on the TCH in Kamloops, and I doubt we'll see overpasses replacing them in the next twenty years.
The section of the Island Highway going around Nanaimo has numerous traffic lights and few if any overpasses. There's more traffic there than on the TCH, so care to guess who'll get them first, if ever.
Just hate traffic lights along main highways. Nanaimo bypass has 4? from one end to the other. Still better that what was there prior to 95 and an excruciating slow drive through Nanaimo.
BC just does not have the tax base to build expensive overpasses and on ramps at every major intersection. Too bad.
In fact with the exception of the UBCO flyover the overpasses and on ramps are all on the west side.

Trans-Canada Highway to be closed for five straight weeks at Kicking Horse Canyon during April and May.
The closure east of Golden will last from April 12 to May 14, and drivers can take an hour-and-a-half detour using Highways 93 and 95, between Golden and Castle Junction.

If you're heading east then plan ahead for an additional hour-and-a-half of travel.

Re: Trans-Canada highway
I hate to disagree with you here but I travel through Golden twice a week to and from Calgary. The latest section of Hwy 1 that EAC worked on near and around the upper section where the overpass is that takes you to the Hwy works yard is a roller coaster. There is also an RV Park and an East Indian Restaurant up there. I know there was thousands and thousands of yards of fill put in to make it 4 lanes and the compaction is more than likely the reason for the roller coaster.stuphoto wrote:Good to see EA getting the job.
