Homeless Housing
Raises a curious question, how well are the facilities in Kelowna at 1462 Commerce Ave maintain (as well Vernon & Kamloops). As well are neighbours doing okay with this place next door.

Meanwhile large segment of taxpaying public are struggling with mortgage payments etc... etc.
Personally I have no ideal answers to any of this.

Re: Homeless Housing
As usual a waste of taxpayers money.
First off, these housing units will be quickly destroyed by the residents.
Second, the fears and responsibilities fir getting off the streets, violence and drugs, will not ho away.
And for every person they take off the streets, two more will replace them.
I'm taxed out. Screw these people.

There isnt anyone that can argue with what you posted here. The realization of this all is that every aspect of the problem will escalate to unmanageable levels of addiction, crime, assaults, taxes, etc. Pretty much like they are right now.Babba_not_Gump wrote: ↑Mar 26th, 2023, 3:01 pm As usual a waste of taxpayers money.

The only way to solve this, or at least have a chance is to only allow those with different ideas and needs into the think tank room. We need a complete different idea and thinking to resolve this.
Under current thinking ,,,,
Its a perpetual problem.

I do have an answer to that (would you vote for me?). Fight mental health issues, i.e. addictions, and that would reduce homelessness, and consequently open up housing spaces for people genuinely in need of them.
Posters who once get on my ignore list do not get off it easily. They would have to demonstrably improve their behavior.

Back in the day government shutdown every facility in the province (if memory serves me it was the latter days of the Social Credit Party), then kick each patient to the street curb. Sooner or later this action would come back to bite everyone in theBC Landlord wrote: ↑Mar 26th, 2023, 6:07 pmI do have an answer to that (would you vote for me?). Re: Homeless Housing
This was on Castanet this morning. This story is as sad as any I have ever read. Can you imagine the feeling of hopelessness this poor woman is trying to deal with every day?
One of these days, this kid will be in the news for all the wrong reasons and everyone will stand around pointing fingers and wondering what went wrong.
These are the people we should be helping. Lock the homeless criminal element up and take care of the mentally ill.

Re: Homeless Housing
I agree with what has been said but have a few ideas.
First stop with the giving those who overdose anymore Naloxone shots to bring them back. Let some of them die and then maybe it will give the remaining ones something to think about. No treatment centres they go cold turkey or lock them up.We should not be giving them clean drugs or places to use them, this only gives them in their minds the okay to do drugs. They put the drugs in their bodies we do not force them to use.
If they are homeless tell them if they want shelter clean themselves up and get a job or move them away where they can live like they want out of sight and mind.
If they have disabilities they should get all the help they need to give them a lift up and this in includes mental illness. IF they can work then lets get the business community to assist when and where they can.
Stop give all these so called not for profit places money to try and do something all they want is to keep paying people high wages for doing nothing.
You get caught selling or holding stolen items off to jail no bail. If need build more and bigger jails and put in a place in the middle of no where.

Re: Homeless Housing
Here's a home for the homeless, those with crime on their minds.
https://www.abbynews.com/news/b-c-s-lar ... -capacity/
B.C.’s largest prison in Oliver is only at 20% capacity
It says one of the reasons is lack of staff.
Well here's an idea. All those well paid govt employees working diligently to find homes for the homeless, train them as prison workers.
Let's get more criminals off the streets.

Re: Homeless Housing
Sheltering (not housing) homeless people is humane, and any reasonable people would support it. But what they need the most is help with their mental health issues (i.e. addictions). And, please don't tell me, .. oh we don't have enough capacity. Build a tent camp somewhere. We fought big wars for Christ sakes, with field hospitals popping up overnight. What's a problem with this nowadays?

Well, for one, treating mental health can not be handled in the same way as, um, going to war. They are very different things. Treating mental health requires understanding humans as actual people.BC Landlord wrote: ↑Mar 29th, 2023, 11:34 am Sheltering (not housing) homeless people is humane, and any reasonable people would support it. Re: Homeless Housing
Those that are displaced by war or natural unexpected disaster are happy to receive whatever they can get anywhere it is offered.
Those that are addicted and have lost everything due to their own choice of drugs over homes are a completely different class.
They have decided that the drugs are more important than a place to live. Those that are displaced by war/disaster did not have any choice.

Re: Homeless Housing
The government does need to do a better job of housing those with mental problems, those who can't look after themselves.
Open up Riverview? Why not? I believe it's still standing, and it's on some valuable property so do something with it.
On the subject of Riverview, it was the NDP who started emptying it and the Social Credit who finally finished it off.
Here's a good history on it.
