Deceivin steven hires back meat inspectors.

Post by I Think »

After our feckless leader gets rid of many meat inspectors, just before the listeriosis outbreak, the US government has informed our leader that Canadian meat will not be accepted into the US ( a huge market for Canadian beef) unless there is an inspector onsite at the packing plant when the meat is being butchered. That this will lead to safer meat in Canada is a good thing.

do you even eat meat?

If you were in the business at all, you'd know the US continues to make "safety" an issue only to increase the cost of Canadian imports to prop up their industry. This has nothing to do with safety. The US just is trying to find ways around the free trade agreements, and they've found a big excuse. Safe meat is a good thing, but has nothing to do with this issue. The Canadian pork and beef industries have just been decimated by these idiotic "safety" measures put in by the US, and now China and the rest of Asia are moving towards self sufficiency in meat production too and so are no longer needing our meat imports. It's not a great time to be a pig or cattle farmer in Canada.

Do we have a link to the facts of this "sudden revelation", or is it just an old story revisited with a different spin?

The Vancouver Sun reports the Canadian Food Inspection Agency is improving food safety inspections after USDA inspectors found large meat-processing plants did not meet U.S. safety standards.

The USDA requires Canada to meet or exceed the meat-inspection system used in the United States. The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service performs annual audits to ensure their standards are met.

The inspection revealed processing plants were not inspected at least once in every 12 hours of production. The CFIA has not enforced the U.S. standards at Canadian plants including Siena Foods Ltd., who has been blamed for producing salami and prosciutto carrying listeriosis.

The CFIA will increase the number of inspections made at each meat-processing plant and will hire 100 more staff members to conduct the inspections. The USDA FSIS is reviewing information from the most recent Canadian audit to make sure imported meat meets or exceeds current standards.
