The cows escaped from a truck.
The cows were headed to a slaughterhouse.
These cows may not have been used to human contact and would run.

That's like saying, "Meh. A 100 sled dogs died, what's so unbelievable about that."

It's the way it died that's the problem. Totally unacceptable.

Shoot first, ask question later.
Grain + rope = captured beef cattle.

What's unbelievable is how many shots the police took.

Could have been worse.

Could have kicked them in the face.

You're right, the cows could easily have kicked the police in the face - and I wouldn't want to be behind an animal when it does that. Oh and animals on the road is a hazard and a car won't get off without damage if they hit a cow.

The owner of the cows is the slaughterhouse. ( Did you read the article ? )

Yes I did read the article, therefore in this case the slaughterhouse would be the owners and further be liable for their cow running at large. I would also believe someone in the enforcement sector would also have a tranquilizer gun. This is 2011 and they use them on vicious animals!! Sorry, you may not be aware of that. It further isn't the fact they shot the cow, it was the way they did so, there are so many green peace people out there and video as you see it just doesn’t look right. A 12 gag with slug would have been my choice over a 40 cal or 9mm.

Lastly what’s with the personal attack??

I don't know what's acceptable more - being shot by a handgun or having a nail shot up your brain at the slaughterhouse where they were going. Either way you die.

Tell me then what would they do when they had a pit bull at large, which has killed other dogs and may endanger human lives?? I would believe they must have other alternatives to 40 cal or 9mm handguns.

The point is, a riffle will know over a cow, or a shotgun with slugs. It would appear more humane that numerous shots from a handgun which was done!! I’ve had to shoot animals in a City before and you know people will be watching!

The nail gun is most likely the less stressful also more accurate. It can be placed in the kill zone. These cowboys had three legged cows running. Not really hunters I'm sure or they would have summonsed a riffle or used a shotgun with a slug and went for the lungs.

Just because an animal is on it's way to a slaughterhouse doesn't mean the slaughterhouse owns it or will ever own it.
I can think of 10 slaughterhouses in this province alone where the animal remains in the possession of the farmer throughout the entire process.
Just sayin

I'm not sure if stressing the cow out before it gets killed either way is a big concern.
