April 9, Vimy Ridge Day.
How about a pause for the tens of thousands of young Canadian men who put their lives on the line.

I agree. How is this not a more recognized Canadian milestone?? This was so huge for our country!!bb49 wrote:April 9, Vimy Ridge Day.

There's no such thing as gay rights, minority rights, or women's rights.
There are only individual rights. Either we all have the same rights, or we're just groups of special interests fighting for preferential government treatment.

June 6, 77 years ago.
I wonder how many of these once young men are still alive.
If so, I would love to buy them a beer.

Re: They fought for our freedom
I occasionally crossed paths with a guy in northern BC, we were working in the forest industry.
He had the proud reputation of being a member of the US Marines and first fought at Guadalcanal.
He told me of the day he was "injured".
A nearby explosion sent some shrapnel or wood into his arm. He looked at it was shocked that a piece was sticking out of him and thought it best to retreat to the first aid tents in the rear for treatment.
Arriving at the tents he saw things that shamed him for his decision to leave the front lines but haunted him for life. Tents, or what might have been called MASH, were filled with dying, screaming and crying men.
And these were just the guys that were still alive.
He turned around, pulled out the shrapnel and went back to the front lines.
I think he was about 17 or 18 at the time.
Boys grew into men pretty quick back then.
We owe them a lot.

Not just "Back then" but in any war or conflict.
Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Gulf war, just to name a few.
It's not an easy or fun way to grow up quickly.

I agree, I have utmost respect for those that signed up.
One of the things today I find repugnant is seeing A-wipes with swastikas and playing Nazi today.
How soon some forget what a generation before fought and died to eliminate.

Our Afghanistan supporters left behind, like empty plastic shopping bags. Discarded and blowing in the wind. Shame, shame JT
Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice. There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice, at which there is simply no way to become THAT ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.

Beyond shameful. Utterly disgusting.
Don't take my silence to mean I've agreed with you; I easily could've just lost interest in explaining how wrong you are.

Re: They fought for our freedom
so, if everyone is pro-veteran, why is flag at half mast for half a day for them but have been down since April for others?
If you want to show them support, demand the government stops clawing back CPP pension monies from the military pension.
