I saw a report somewhere, Canada is closing its air force pilots training sites and farming it out to other countries! :200:
:cuss: , how low this government has sunk.

Maybe China will get the contract.

I am currently reading Vimy, the Battle and the Legend, by Tim Cook:

I am trying and hopefully will succeed in finishing it before April 9th.

One question I had when I visited Vimy in 2019 was - how did this monument survive through WW2 when the Germans took control of France? I was thinking that they would have wanted to tear all of these monuments down. Turns out the book answers that question, which was so obvious I should have thought of it. Hitler and his generals were all WW1 veterans, so they understood why these memorials were erected, and would have respected them, and sure enough, they ordered that all WW1 monuments not be touched.

One story of interest - after the Germans overran France in 1940, Canadian newspapers ran stories that the Germans had blown up the Vimy monument, and of course, they were demanding that the Hun be punished for such an evil crime. Then a few days later this picture was distributed by German propagandists:
Screenshot 2024-03-19 194454.png
So to the shame of the Canadian papers, Vimy was not blown up, and they had fallen victim to what 75 years later would be termed "Fake news". Not long after the German victory over France, Hitler and his top brass went to visit Vimy. Hitler actually served in a German unit on Vimy a month before the Canadians attacked, before being transferred out. Imagine how different history might have been had he still been there on April 9th, 1917 when Canada attacked.

So to sum up - Hitler and his top brass made visiting Vimy one of their first stops after they conquered France. That's how in high esteem the Germans who had served in WW1 held the Canadians; so much so that they wanted to see the Vimy monument themselves, and made it one of their first priorities to see.

Apparently, according to Tim Cook, German soldiers were very active visitors of the memorial throughout the Second World War during the time they occupied France. The only desecration of the site that they committed? They scratched off some of the anti-German graffiti left on the walls of underground caves by Canadian soldiers. Otherwise, when the Allies took back France, the Vimy memorial was basically untouched.

One of the greatest things [Canada] has ever done economically was realize it is much cheaper to worship the veterans than it is to take care of them.

Since the beginning of 2022, Canada has committed $4 billion in assistance to Ukraine. How much to Canadian Vets ?

Finished the Tim Cook book on Vimy in time for April 9th, then forgot to post about it on April 9th. Oh well, a few days late to mention the Vimy anniversary.

I encourage all Canadians to donate, as we know, our current wacko government has decided that these veterans who need our help are "asking for more than our wacko government can give". So it falls on us. Let's do it.

Dead right wrote: Jan 26th, 2024, 10:37 am No one is attacking Canada and no one will. The USA is protecting us as we are their buffer from russia. russia knows to attack us is to start WW3, We should have a fair-sized standing army to support our allies when the need happens and upgrade our weapons ongoing. I would also support our government (no matter which one) in building a weapon supply chain so that: A, we build jobs in Canada with our natural resources, B, once we are supplied there is a good market out there for merchandise of war.
Ya know that for sure? How? Ya really think an unstable person like Putin worries about the States? Very doubtful. If he wanted to establish a foothold in Canada, he would have zero problem. Sleepy Joe aint about to protect us, he detestes Trudeau.

well, another anniversary coming up for Juno beach and D-Day, 80 years now. I was present in 2019 for the 75th anniversary, and saw all of the stands being set up for Justin to make his speech at the Juno museum, and I remember thinking...please...please...for the 80th anniversary please let it be anyone but Justin speaking....oh well, there's always the 85th anniversary...

As a 19 year old, this Canadian kid was flying Mustangs over Normandy on D-Day.

Canadian pilot Richard Rohmer, 100, recalls D-Day invasion: 'This is what we’d been hoping for'

'We knew it was going to be OK. Then we got over to where the people were shooting at us, and that changed our attitude to a little extent'
