GMO food in Canada....

Post by dle »

https://www.castanet.net/news/Canada/23 ... es-imports

Ok so here we have Canadian officials saying : Modified wheat is not approved for commercial use in Canada

Why not? They say all the other GM food is safe - won't even legislate that labels much be present to advise consumers that they are eating a GM food because they say it's "safe".

Why is one good but not the other?

Wheat is a complex plant. That is part of it . Another fear will be cross pollination. Canada grows a ton of wheat.

Still confused....if GMO is apparently so safe for all other foods, plants etc (according to our government), why is it not safe for wheat, complex or not, or cross pollination or not? GMO is either safe or not safe. Maybe it is because other countries don't agree that it is safe. Maybe Canada says it's safe but other countries have research saying it's not. Just seems to me that if it's safe for one food or plant that should mean it's "safe", period, for all foods or plants.

Well with that in mind and you consider trade, maybe it's the best policy whether it's based in facts or BS.

Im not too smart. I think you just summed up exactly why Canada has outlawed GMO wheat.
Its a trade thing. We farm way more wheat than 5 Canada's could eat or drink. So we gotta sell that somewhere. If Europe wont buy it that makes it harder for Canada. Limits us to one market USA. Who also farms a ton of wheat

Before we can talk about whether GMO wheat is 'good' for Canada's grain farmers, economically, or not,
we should discuss a few things:

1 - How much Roundup are we eating in the other GMO crops - corn, etc? Do GMO foods have more pesticides
in them? Or less?

Are we eating a lot of Roundup these days? Do we like Roundup in our food? Any tests - long term - on
the effects of Roundup in our belly? Are we getting more Roundup than every before in history?

Once we answer the question of chemicals in our food, like Roundup, but other pesticides also go into our bellies,
and how that is working out for everyone's health,
then we can start to talk about GMO wheat, and whether it is good economically for farmers or not.

Because as long as we continue to worship money, and do everything for money, sickness and disease
will continue to be our #1 industry.
