Canadian delegation going to China

Canadian delegation going to China

Postby featfan » Jan 2nd, 2019, 4:49 pm

Despite the current state of tension between Ottawa and Beijing, Canadian senators and MPs will be visiting China this week on a trip hosted by the Canada-China Legislative Association.

Senators Victor Oh and Joseph Day and MPs Michael Cooper, Geng Tan, Majid Jowhari and Chandra Arya will arrive in China on Jan. 5

Come on why are we sending them there when 2 Canadians are jailed in seclusion.
Grow a pair Trudeau.

^^ because talking and communicating with China may be beneficial.

Most of this situation has been triggered by T.Rump's silliness. Canada is kind of stuck in the middle.

China is and can be a valuable trading partner for Canada, and it is in our interests to do what we can to defuse the current situation and lay groundwork for good relations with China in the future.

It is in Canada's interest that China conform to some semblance of international norms, and in the long run that is in China's interests as well. You don't get there, to a mutually beneficial position, by disrespecting each other.

Face it, Canada is a trading nation. We and buy and sell with Saudi Arabia and many iffy places like Honduras. Hopefully, through dialogue and trade relations we can bring those places to being more reasonable.

You don't do it by disrespecting them.

China has a point, perhaps not entirely, but the Huawei kerfuffle has more to it than we know about. I suspect that Huawei passing Apple in market share may have something to do with the American position.... as well as unwelcomed competition to Intel and Qualcomm in building out 5G.

And no, I do not condone China's treatment of the Uighur people - it sucks.

Is Trudeau going? I sure hope so, because he has his wardrobe already picked out!

I hope he isn't. We need actual people who care about Canada to go, negotiate, talk in real terms and not media terms and find ways to make deals for our countries.

Keep Justin away please.

No, I think that he can deal with them as an adult, not as some prancing buffoon.

All evidence points to the snollygoster scown Justin Trudeau being unfit to run this country. The LIEberal platform is all foofrah. October 2019 can't come fast enough.

^^ actually, the mistake made was letting the Yanks pull the stunt with Meng in the first place. Apparently the Canadian "intelligence" folks knew well in advance that the Yanks were going to invoke the US-Canada bilateral treaty and try to snatch Meng.

A little "hint", wink-wink-nudge-nudge and Meng could have rerouted, avoiding all this nonsense that T.Rump stirred up.

For now all we, Canada, can do is "make nice" and expect no outcome. Jumping up and down and stamping feet will go nowhere and be worse.

China is different than us, and there is little anyone can do at this point, except perhaps politely ask the Chinese to let our people out on secure bail as we have done. Then let the legal processes play out at both ends.
