Liberal McCallum should be fired for judicial tampering

Scheer says he would fire McCallum for Huawei comments

Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer says if he was prime minister he would fire Canada's Ambassador to China John McCallum over his most recent comments on Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou.

"I would fire him," Scheer told Don Martin in an interview for CTV Power Play, airing Wednesday evening

"The situation with China right now is at a very strained point. That goes without saying. We have to be very, very careful as a country and our government needs to be taking this very, very seriously."

McCallum has been criticized for telling Chinese language media in Markham, Ont. Tuesday that Meng has "good arguments" to avoid extradition to the United States. As evidence of this, McCallum pointed specifically to U.S. President Donald Trump's controversial suggestion that he might intervene in the extradition case as leverage for trade negotiations with China.

Trump came under fire for the comments, which prompted Canadian officials to stress that politics had nothing to do with Wanzhou's arrest.

Scheer said that McCallum's latest comments were "unacceptable" and may also contribute to concerns about the politicization of this case.

"Here we have the spokesperson of the Government of Canada weighing in on an independent judicial case. Our judicial systems, our proceedings, need to have integrity around it," Scheer said.

"To have this type of comment is completely unacceptable and he needs to be held responsible for his actions."

Meng has been released on bail and is due in court in Vancouver Feb. 6.

I think McCallums comments came after a 5 hour consult with his advisors Johnny Walker and Jim Beam.

If it's white, Cons call it black. One minute they want the PM to interfere with the judicial system, next they want a firing for a *bleep* statement. Lol
They can't make up their minds. Lol
I'd be *bleep* 'n drinking too

He's now backpedalled on his statement, calling it a misstatement. I should bloody well think so.

What if the boy king instructed McCallum to talk about it which may result in getting rid of the whole Meng problem?
Never mind, that's way to cloak and dagger and devious for the boy king to think of. [icon_lol2.gif]
Why use a big word when a diminutive one will suffice.

Really? You try to make Scheer the bad guy in all this? And McCallum is now in full damage control, why? I've never seen such thick blinders as those you sport. It's not healthy, man.

From BNN/Bloomberg:

MCCALLUM MEA CULPA

Canada's ambassador to China has walked back his controversial verbal intervention earlier this week in the legal battle facing Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou. "I regret that my comments ... have created confusion. I misspoke," John McCallum said in a statement yesterday afternoon, adding another layer to an increasingly complex situation.

He should be fired because he's an idiot, plain and simple.
I never liked him, and always thought he sounded a bit thick, at best.
With all at stake, with everyone (including the paperboy) knowing about the stress in the Chinese relationship, why oh why would he open his big mouth?
It shows a lack of clarity and lack of ability to grasp the situation.
That job is an important one, requiring clarity.
It has nothing to do with which party he's a part of, that kind of stupidity requires disciplinary action.
Canadians need to see better that this.
If he's cruising for padded pension number 4, at least demoat him, something to show there's a bit of control still left.
p.s. as soon as you use a Trumpism (misspoke), your're done in my books

The scary part is he is back in China. What has he already said and what is he going to say to the Chinese while there? How can we trust that he will do the right thing as he has already "misspoke". This is such a dangerous situation and we are sending our "best" to deal with it??? Don't we have anyone with any kind of diplomacy to deal with this?

It's Friday night again, and that means a word or two from Rex Murphy concerning Mr. McC's questionable remarks in China.

Rex figures there's something afoot. Could this be manipulation with end result of life sentence for drugdealer and return of other two, make JT a hero in eyes of gullible votwrs. One of the commentators asked if McCallum pulled his speech out of Butts. (Snort)

I guess he didn't learn from his first "misspoke." He's still yapping. What an idiot! ST*U John!

McCallum says dropping Meng extradition would be 'great' for Canada: report

VANCOUVER -- A media report is quoting Canada's ambassador to China as saying it would be "great for Canada" if the United States drops an extradition request against a Huawei executive, the day after he apologized for a politically explosive slip of the tongue when discussing the case.

StarMetro Vancouver says John McCallum made the comment Friday to one of its reporters during a charity luncheon in Vancouver.

"From Canada's point of view, if (the U.S.) drops the extradition request, that would be great for Canada," McCallum told the Star.

The comment follows a statement McCallum issued Thursday, saying he misspoke earlier in the week when he told a group of Chinese-language journalists in Toronto about Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou, listing several arguments he thought could help her with her case.

Haha, it looks as if no one is sober in Lib gov't at all.

What a clown show. They Lurch from a bad situation (which they could easily have avoided in the first place), then handwring and play the victim when trying to drum up international support, to stupid yapping off of McCallum. (Twice).

China must now be laughing up their sleeves, thanking their lucky day that the tatertot, Little Spud, is in charge.

Just wait. As bad as Trudeau is we have a whole other group of jackazzes who want to replace him with dimples.
The ability to suspend judgment and change your mind when warranted is a distinguishing feature of critical thought
