Mother, can you spare a dime? Freeland flat broke

Slumming in Summerhill: LPC candidate Freeland now a Toronto homeowner

The Liberal Party’s star Toronto candidate, who has promised to advocate for the interests of Canada’s middle class, had to get her parents to co-sign a mortgage on a $1.3-million home in an affluent Toronto neighbourhood.

Chrystia Freeland on Friday closed on the purchase of a three-storey townhouse in Summerhill, in the Toronto Centre riding she hopes to win in an upcoming by-election.

Her financial acumen? This is what she does, bankrupts the section she was in charge of at Reuters. She will do the same to Canada, since we're already on the brink.

How Chrystia Freeland Hastened Reuters Next's Demise

Costs steadily rose with new hires and payments to vendors and consultants as the project dragged on and the launch date was continually postponed. While earlier articles estimated the cost at around $5 million, sources close to the project said that actual figure was three to four times that amount, or between $15 and $20 million. Moreover, the first former Reuters employee said that Activate itself was paid $300,000 a month.

The technical, financial and editorial dysfunction inherent in Reuters Next quickly became apparent to the staff Freeland enlisted, who began to depart in droves. Anthony De Rosa, Reuters's social media editor, left at the end of May to become editor in chief at the startup Circa. A month later, Paul Smalera, who was the project manager for the new CMS, left for the The New York Times. Alex Leo, who was the head of product for Reuters.com, also left in June but stayed on as a consultant through August. Impoco had left in January, replaced by Jim Roberts from The New York Times, who exited last week when Rashbass announced the end of Reuters Next.

In July, Freeland herself left Reuters, announcing in stunning fashion in an article in the Canadian Globe and Mail that came out at midnight that she would be running for a Canadian parliamentary seat.

"To people below her it was something of a shock, it was sudden," says the Reuters employee.

When the last deadline for Next's full launch in October was abandoned, executives embarked on a five week evaluation of what could be delivered and what was missing. The decision of new CEO Rashbass, made on Sept. 18, to kill the project meant that after more than two years of fits and starts, Reuters is back roughly where it started.

It always amazes me that “we the people” somehow permit others that are completely inept to lead their own lives take control and pretend to know what they are doing...

Would you hire a financial advisor that is bankrupt?
How about a Lawer that can’t win any cases?
A bank teller that can’t count?
A medical specialist that keeps misdiagnosing patients?

We now have a finance minister that needs mommy’s help to finance a, cheap by Toronto standards, home. So we are now handing this under qualified minister the keys to this runaway train and expect her to bring it back under control? Not a chance!

So this is how we end up with a drama teacher leading (destroying) a country.
Makes perfect sense to me!
I really like your post, just can’t find the button.

Well considering her "job" is in politics and she could lose that job at any time I would suspect whoever is doing the mortgage is just covering their Butts.

Smart move on their part IMO.

Clearly she has all the qualifications needed for the task at hand - (scuttle the ship & transform it into another utopian nightmare paradise for all to enjoy.)

...for all - except you stupid simple little Canadians.

I'm obviously missing something here. The woman hasn't even started the job and there are those who are slamming her abilities. The hilarious part of it all is the party they support simply doesn't have one individual who could step up and do the job. Wait a sec. come to think of it they don't even have a leader who can lead. Bash bash bash ... at least the Liberal's are keeping this country running and safe. What have the c's done for us lately? Yup - nothing - absolutely nothing! And in my opinion they will never be able to offer this fine country anything of value.

Well no, the Bloc Quebcois only serve Quebec. Pretty obvious.

Back to topic - I saw that Freeland was babbling about the man-made climate change myth yet again, probably on orders from her idiot boss JT, who we know can't be questioned or you are forced out of office. Any politician babbling about the man-made climate change hoax should be punted out of office immediately. Right now, with the sky-rocketing deficits and debt, there is no time for fairy tales. Canadian economic stability is the only focus, and has to be, for many years to come. Perhaps when Greta is 50 years old we can start listening to her Soros' fed nonsense again, but for now, all hoaxes like that one have to be sidelined. So shameful that we even have to hear about that crap at all right now.

Of course the right wing aficionados won't look past their ideological noses to see this: https://www.reuters.com/news/world

Yup, there it is, Reuters website making advertising revenue and money for Reuters. All traditional media sources were struggling in 2013 - the date of the article about Reuters online - and all were struggling to re-invent themselves in a digital mobile context.

Freeland saw the future, and went for it. I get that right wing aficionados have a hard time with that - too busy looking backwards.

As for the "elitist" thingy - well Peter MacKay is descended from British aristocracy and "inherited" his poppa's political position....
The middle path - everything in moderation, and everything in its time and order.

She sure did. She knows what she has to do to keep her job, and that's never disagree with our brain-dead idiot in chief. Or else she follows Morneau and Raybould out the door. What a thankless job to be the paid yes-man to such a *bleep* of a man as JT.

Easy for you to say ... but how about backing up your finger pointing with a few facts to prove it! Just another damn deflection from the truth.

What's the point here? Canadian buys home with help of parents? Not me but lots of people do that.

Not people in charge of a 1.7 trillion dollar economy.
