Too often that money goes to news coverage that helps keep the Liberals in office.
Yes, and therein lies the rub. There was a time, long ago I'm told, that the CBC concerned itself with reporting facts, and also concerned themselves with actual science. All of that got thrown out the window when the top brass, who is beholden to the government, decided to become a propaganda organ for the Left. Now it's just a complete trash organization.
Bingo we have a winner , but the Liberals will call that total garage . :130:

Yabba Dabba BOO wrote: Dec 15th, 2021, 8:15 pm It's not a myth and I'm very thankful the CBC is so science-based and attempts to educate Canadians. It appears the education attempt has failed with a select few, but they weren't going to listen to anything they deemed "leftist" anyway.
It's a sad time for Canada when the CBC reporting facts and science is viewed as 'leftist propaganda'. At the rate that right wingers are sinking further into stupidity we may start seeing them argue that 2+2=4 is 'leftist' and 'against freedoms'.
Hey pappy, go back and read the post directly above yours.
How about your thoughts on CBCs shrinking revenue base, which we all know will be made up by us taxpayers.

It isn't about leftist propaganda, or right wing stupidity anymore.
It's now about CBC budgeting not knowing that $4 - $2=$2.
They still think $4 - $2=$5. Hey, the budget balanced itself again! :130:

Until there is something better - I don't trust conservatives enough to not fill the void with their own brand of hate with donors with deep pockets. Like fox and other channels that popped up in the US. I think it's better to stick with the devil we know and I prefer. Otherwise, our country and alleged democracy will become as big a laughing stock as the Americans have.

So we're supposed to trust liberals with their own brand of hate spreading their message with government money?

The devil we know and no one with a brain prefers, you mean.

We are well past laughing stock and our democracy is barely functioning, thanks to the idiot we have in charge right now.

I thought maybe I was being too hard on CBC radio in my previous comments, so whilst driving tried again. [ I used to be glued to it almost 24/7]

Sure enough, Kovid Krap, and next up ….all you never needed to know about Klimate Khrisis.

Does anyone praising this miserable radio station actually listen to it?

I stand by my aforementioned assessment.

Chris Walker, Day Break good start to the day.
Tom Power, excellent interviewer.
Bob McDaondald, quirks and quarks. Need I say more?
Stuart McLean, Vinyl Cafe. Missed terribly.
Rosanna Deerchild, Unreserved. First hand stories from indigenous peoples should be important to all of us.
That’s just a few reasons to listen to the CBC.

And though not on CBC anymore, Rick Mercer is a national treasure.

Amendment

Chris Walker, ok
Writers & Co, Eleanor Wachtel….excellent

Q&Q…gave it up a year ago as it’s all Kovid and Klimate now

Anyway, pretty costly imo for a couple of good shows

Should we be so lucky as to have the CBC turn into a void, it will not be filled with a government site.
Be it left or be it right or even neutral, it will be filled by whomever can make a buck, without sucking taxpayers dry.

Why you say it will be filled with hate is beyond me.

Thumbs down CBC Floundering... Yet Again
Trudeau tells heritage minister to burn more taxpayer money on failing CBC

In his mandate letter to newly-appointed Minister of Canadian Heritage Pablo Rodriguez, Trudeau tasked the cabinet member with providing “additional funding” to the public broadcaster which is already subsidized by Canadians to the tune of $1.2 billion.

According to public financial disclosures, taxpayer funding makes up the vast majority of CBC’s revenue, accounting for nearly 71.2%.

The CBC has long struggled to find revenue sources outside of government. Both viewers and advertising dollars are tuning out, and the broadcaster consistently reports financial losses.

And some still wonder as to why the CBC is little more than a paid for mouthpiece for the Trudeau Government.

This whole CBC funding issue is a laugh a minute. In one breath they are telling you that the CBC is “struggling” to find financing, and in the next, JT is tasking cabinet to find “additional financing”

The CBC is a very expensive balloon to let children play with. I suggest that a prick from fiscal reality will deflate this albatross pdq.

Just put Schitt's Creek on 24 hour re-run with some old Rick Mercer mixed in. The rest is all just unwatchable dreck. Other than the occasional Murdoch Mysteries....

CBC ad revenues sinking faster than Trudeau's waterlogged surfboard.

CBC Ad Revenue On The Decline

A recent study by Postmedia found that the CBC's advertising revenues are in freefall.

Reports indicate that ad sales were down from $220 million in 2019 to just under $199 million in 2020, a drop of about 10% in one year.

Furthermore, "CBC’s share of prime-time viewers fell by 2%, despite the fact locked-down Canadians watched more TV than ever before during the pandemic. At any given time during prime viewing hours (8 to 11 p.m.), just 5% of Canadians are watching our state broadcaster", reports the agency.

The report ads that the network's share of 18- to 49-year-old viewers is steadily declining each year. A disproportionate amount of people watching the CBC are in the next age cadre. However, this spells disaster for the news corporation, as eighteen to 49-year-olds are the most coveted by advertisers because of their purchasing power and spending habits, and the CBC is largely irrelevant to them.

The report adds that "since 2014, the CBC’s income from TV ads has collapsed from $426 million to $199 million, a decline of 53% in just seven years."
