Re: Poll for Humboldt truck driver
Tough call.
I'll not vote. Yet. I'm still trying to process.
Intent should come into judgement.
I highly doubt he purposely blew the stop sign. intent
vs
Some one who purposely blows up a bus load of kids. intent
Same outcome arrived in two entirely different ways.
What is the intent of the law as written on the deportation of immigrants
that do criminal acts ?
inadvertently blowing a stop sign and purposeful bombings are both crimes.
But are two entirely different criminal acts.
I'll be coming into my 40th year as a commercial driver this year.
I've seen and been through some stuff. Perspective has been gained
if nothing else.

Re: Poll for Humboldt truck driver
I read this this morning and wondered if it would make its way here.
I don't want to see this man deported because I don't see the benefit. By all accounts, he is a decent human being who is looking for ways to make it here.
His wife is a professional I think making her a valued asset.
What he did will live with him for the rest of his life. Sending him back to India is simply more punishment.
I understand those who want to see him be deported. They are angry and I get that but this serves no purpose here.
There have been cases of immigrants who committed crimes willfully and successfully fought extradition so why the gloves are being put on here is mystifying.

Re: Poll for Humboldt truck driver
I'm in favour of allowing him to stay.
I can't add much to what mexi cali said. The purpose of deportation is to protect our safety and security. Mr. Sidhu has been co-operative and remorseful from the start, and there's no reason to think he'll do additional harm if he's allowed to stay. If any of us did what he did, we'd serve our time and then have a chance to rebuild our lives. I see no reason why Mr. Sidhu shouldn't get the same.

Why do you think its fake remorse and not real remorse??the truth wrote:so many fools. he has shown remorse because his lawyer coached him too.if i did what he did, i would do the same show fake remorse like he is, not to be deported
If you did what he did, you would show fake remorse?? That's terrible. It was a horrible accident, and I would think anyone with a conscious would be truly remorseful.

I have multiple logbook violations over the years that I wasn't ticketed for. Everyone has logbook violations in the industry-it's part of the job of getting all the stuff people buy to them.the truth wrote:he is doing and saying what he needs to do, not to get deported why is that so hard to understand

Some may view my politically incorrect opinions as harsh and may be offended by them. Some think political correctness will be our undoing.

^^^When I first started with heavy trucks and I was being used and abused by opportunistic employers....yes, maybe even more.
A violation could be something as simple as not marking a cracked light cover on a pretrip or something simple like not marking a vehicle inspection kick the tires 15 min stop at the truck stop. They can add up quick.

Maybe read the whole story:the truth wrote: have you had 70 federal violations in 12 days like this guy
Sidhu was likely unaware of his log book responsibilities and unqualified to be in a truck that size on a secondary road, Scott Thomas, father of Evan Thomas, told reporters. He questioned the lack of federal oversight of the trucking industry.
“Maybe if more people had eyes on this situation, Mr. Sidhu never would have got on the road, let alone been in a position to violate that many traffic regulations,” Scott Thomas said.
Truths can be backed up by facts - do you have any?

So?? That doesn't mean he doesn't feel remorseful for what happened. People break driving laws every single day, and if they got in an accident that doesn't mean they wouldn't feel remorseful.the truth wrote:he is doing and saying what he needs to do, not to get deported why is that so hard to understand

I understand that this is your opinion, that doesn't make it a fact.

Actually in this case the company was also under fire - go back and read through this because it's obvious there's going to be a repeat of discussion that has already occurred.the truth wrote:typical of these days, always some else's fault

Re: Poll for Humboldt truck driver
I have my own personal opinion on this matter, since I didn’t lose a loved one in this tragedy my opinion means nothing.
I don't give a damn whether people/posters like me or dislike me, I'm not on earth to win any popularity contests. I am an old cantankerousness grump that happens to be very opinionated.
