Re: Alberta - BC Highway Restrictions
Presumably the police would use their discretion about who to stop and question.alanjh595 wrote:That would be profiling.Merry wrote:They don’t have to man all the inter provincial border crossings. All they have to do is declare non essential inter provincial travel illegal, then give the police authority to stop and question all those driving vehicles with out of province plates.
If they can prove their visit is essential, they can continue on their way. If they can’t - fine them.
AND
All the U-Haul trucks have Arizona plates.
AND
All semi truck trailers may have out-of-province plates, but the tractors may be from either BC or any other province/state.
AND
There are many out-of-province fleet vehicles that have BC drivers, like Telus.
Truckers are clearly here for essential purposes, and people driving u-hauls are probably in the process of moving here (which would also be deemed essential travel), so I’m guessing the police wouldn’t bother stopping and questioning such folks.
As for claims of “profiling”, unless it can be shown that the police are stopping a disproportionate number of out of province vehicles being driven by folks from a particular ethnic group, such claims would be bogus.

Check Calgary’s weather forecast for tomorrow and you’ll understand why they need to leave. ![:haha: [icon_lol2.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_lol2.gif)

No different than closing the federal border to all but essential traffic.alanjh595 wrote:BC Ferries are an essential service.

Re: Alberta - BC Highway Restrictions
Some of you who say this can't be done should do a little Googling.
There's the Maritime bubble, just for the Maritimes.
And when the numbers got bad, they even stopped travel between the Maritime provinces to all but essential travel.
Even now, if you are from outside the Maritimes and planning on flying there, you have to apply for permission to enter.
So don't say it can't be done.
And there are probably fewer ways to enter BC from Alberta than there are between Quebec and New Brunswick.
As for the Peace River communities, close Hwy 97 at the Pine Pass and leave those communities to Alberta until this is over.

Ho Hum was supposed to be illegal.. way back was the chatter... then things change and the shoe lady and Dix are now talking about the road closures... but hey if they can get Federal Money... to pay for it...LOOK OUT.... the pandemic card overrides alot of common sense and past rules...
Time will tell on this one.... Never say NEVER... with the governments we have running the gong show... !!
Spinning our wheels on how to get things under control as it looks like a run a way to me... !!!

Make it a BIG fine too and maybe seize their vehicles for a week or 2. Those impound fees add up quickly.mexi cali wrote:

Wouldn't take long to have a huge parking lot full of Ford trucks with red and white plates.

Nice to see that Premier Horgan read my post and took my suggestion. There are times when common sense trumps the idiot nay-sayers. Something had to be do, even though Ontario had to do it first. Good on ya, John

Guess you’re forgetting it’s not just “out of province” travelers.....typicalBsuds wrote:Merry wrote:

Re: Alberta - BC Highway Restrictions
If you read the current PHO there are NO travel ‘Restrictions’ only recommendations. The only travel ‘Restrictions’ are Federal. The powers that be need to either *bleep* or get off the pot, shut the province down completely or let it go, this flip flopping, half assed *bleep* has done nothing and will continue to do nothing. No *bleep* the numbers are on an up swing, the variant is 2.5 times more transmissible easier spread=increased cases, but still a 98-99+% recovery rate. Quite the flip flop, grow a pair and make decision one way or the other, open or closed
