You’re turning to exceptionally thin gruel here Rejigger. In the absence of alternative facts, there is simply no reason to reject the reported number.

Re: Alberta
Good on Danielle Smith for getting her border/fentanyl czar. Fleeing to Canada to get away from ICE seems counterintuitive, but it’s good that more troops will now be deployed to the border to deal with migrants, drugs and weapons coming to Canada. If we had more leaders like her, all of this nonsense could have been settled without all the unnecessary damage that has been done to US-Canada relations.
Will this episode help people to understand that ‘free’ trade between sovereign countries is a joke? Like socialism, it only works in theory; in practise, it’s just a bad idea waiting to wreak havoc. If the provinces insist on having dependable access to the US market, they have only one realistic option.

Re: Alberta
To recap, Danielle Smith didn't say "51", she said "more than 50". Contrary to video evidence, some media outlets reported "51" and gullible fools chose to believe it. What's worse is that gullible fools are still choosing to believe the media reports of "51" over clear (not to mention official) video evidence. The media loves to hold power over such fools.
So then why did Reuters report such a falsity?d0nb wrote: ↑Jan 29th, 2025, 4:17 pm Get real. Reuters and other outlets have no reason to report that the number is 51 if it isn't. They couldn't care less about whether Alberta becomes a state. https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/ ... 24-12-12/

Yep, gotta laugh when the very ones calling out something stupid like this are the ones that support the most failed, unlinked government in history. *removed*

Re: Alberta
Yeah,it looks like she really put her foot in it this time.
"It will be hard for Alberta’s United Conservative Party to shake off former Alberta Health Services CEO Athana Mentzelopoulos’s bombshell allegation she was fired for launching an investigation of sketchy procurement deals and private surgical contracts pushed by influential staffers in Premier Danielle Smith’s government.
Ms. Mentzelopoulos’s claims are included in a long letter to the beleaguered health care agency’s lawyer threatening a $1.7-million lawsuit for wrongful dismissal that has been seen by The Globe and Mail but apparently nobody else in the news business.
Despite very few people actually having had the opportunity to read the accusations, though, the stuff didn’t just hit the fan when reporter Carrie Tait published her carefully crafted story Wednesday night, it set off a hurricane of the same substance that raged through the day yesterday and shows no sign of abating.
In response, Alberta NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi made a forceful statement yesterday at which he demanded not just one investigation, but four – one by the auditor-general, one by the police, one by the ethics commissioner, plus a judge-led public inquiry."

Re: Alberta
More on that here:
Premier Smith remains silent as calls for resignation grow louder following AHS political interference allegations
"Alberta’s premier is not offering any comment amidst the firing of Alberta Health Services’ former CEO, which comes with allegations of corruption surrounding health procurement contracts and sweetheart deals for private surgery providers.
Athana Mentzelopoulos, the former CEO of Alberta Health Services, said her contract was terminated on Jan. 8, just two days before she was allegedly going to meet with the province’s auditor general regarding an internal investigation into procurement contracts.
The news came out in a letter obtained by the Globe and Mail from Mentzelopoulos’ lawyer to AHS’s interim general counsel, which was sent on Jan. 20.
Contents of the letter allege Premier Danielle Smith’s then-chief of staff, Marshall Smith, had also interfered in AHS contract negotiations.
CTV News reached out to Premier Smith’s press secretary, Sam Blackett, for a response, who said the premier is declining to comment."

Re: Alberta
AHS is undergoing (yet another!) major overhaul. Athana Mentzelopoulos' firing wasn't specific to anything she did, the government was clearing house. There's another member who said in an interview that there was always pressure to sign private contracts - so this also isn't specific to Athana Mentzelopoulos, either.
Sounds like another hit job on the UCP. Politics is a dirty game.

Then why is Mentzelopoulos outing the Alberta Government over her alligations and suing for wrongful dismissal as Carrie Tait has seen in her letter?Rejigger wrote: ↑Feb 8th, 2025, 8:54 am AHS is undergoing (yet another!) major overhaul. And why hasn't Smith simply stepped as you have to dismiss all that in the same manner?

As is the case forever and always, when linking to an article that's behind a paywall, please quote from it when referencing it.IDMale wrote: ↑Feb 8th, 2025, 9:26 am Then why is Mentzelopoulos outing the Alberta Government over her alligations and suing for wrongful dismissal as Carrie Tait has seen in her letter?

I don't speak for Danielle Smith, but I'm sure she'll comment in due time. Just because the Chicken Littles are claiming this is a huge deal, doesn't mean it's actually a huge deal.

And I'm sorry I won't have the means to cut and paste from articles for quite awhile.
But here's why I'm apologising now.

Re: Alberta
why is it stupid? She is going to sue for wrongful dismissal, she must have the receipts as the board ( who was fired) told her to take it to the RCMP.
