How many dead horses can Canada’s conservative movement flog before it makes itself irrelevant to mainstream voters?

On Parliament Hill, Erin O’Toole’s Conservative party might as well be on a mission to kill in the bud any early buyers’ remorse Canadians may feel about handing Justin Trudeau a third term.

It was not enough that the Conservatives took hits from both sides of the vaccination mandate debate by sitting on the fence during the federal election campaign.

Now O’Toole’s caucus — or at least some of its vocal elements— would engage in a losing battle over the mandatory vaccination protocol to be put in place in time for the reopening of the House of Commons next month.

The decision to bar anyone who is not fully vaccinated from entering the parliamentary precinct as of Nov. 22 was made behind closed doors by the small group of MPs who represent the main parties — including the Conservatives— on the board of internal economy.

On that basis, the Official Opposition can try — as some of its members would — to make the issue a matter of parliamentary privilege and bring it to the floor of the House at the first opportunity next month. But even on that battlefield, the ultimate outcome is not in doubt.

Should it ever come to a vote of the full House, the only question will be whether some Conservative MPs choose to break ranks and join their New Democratic, Green, Bloc and Liberal colleagues in supporting the mandatory vaccination protocol.

At week’s end, it is unclear whether O’Toole — who has said his party would respect the rules — has the moral authority to convince his caucus to take a pass on a lose-lose fight.

She absolutely nails the part about buyers' remorse. What a cluster it would be if O'Toole were PM and the whackadoodles were in cabinet instead of the opposition benches. *shudder*

And that's why the CPC is dysfunctional and fracturing.
No, that's why it's "dysfunctional and fracturing" in the fevered brains of demagogues, who are trying desperately anything they can rather than admit that the Liberal platform and policies don't resonate with the majority of Canadians, and why they will NEVER get the majority they seek. The CPC is doing just fine.
Pretending the CPC "stuff" don't stink denialism
Could you try this statement again in English?
will never fix the blatantly and obviously defective CPC.
Except that other than to the fevered brains of demagogues and half-wits, the CPC is not "obviously defective" and instead is doing just great! Now the Liberals on the other hand, what a total train-wreck. Great job Erin!
The very fact that you constantly refer to the Liberals as a "total train wreck" simply shows how utterly incompetent and dysfunctional the CPC is. If, as you profess, the Liberals are a train wreck - then why oh why can't the CPC beat them??? It is simple, because if the Liberals are a train wreck, the CPC is a rusted out old shipwreck sitting in the muck at the bottom of the ocean.

That's how dysfunctional and fractured the CPC is - they can't even beat a "train wreck" of Liberals lol.

More so I refer to them as unelectable, idiotic arrogant scum. And the fact that they've lost two elections in a row, and then our arrogant dumb-dumb of a PM flew OVER Kamloops to get to Tofino on the 30th of Sept just shows I was right. The Liberals just plain suck.

The CPC are going to be just fine.
simply shows how utterly incompetent and dysfunctional the CPC is.
The CPC are fine, but the Liberals are utterly incompetent and totally dysfunctional. The fact that Liberal aficionados are here lying about the state of the CPC and acting like demagogues just proves that point perfectly.
If, as you profess, the Liberals are a train wreck - then why oh why can't the CPC beat them???
The Liberals are arrogant, brainless and evil, which is why the can't beat the CPC, or the NDP, or the Bloc-heads. They just can't win, the way they are now.
It is simple, because if the Liberals are a train wreck,
Not just a trainwreck. They are arrogant, stupid and evil too.
That's how dysfunctional and fractured the CPC is
Except that they aren't dysfunctional and fractured. The CPC is awesome. Keep up the great work Erin, and also Leslyn - hang in there, don't let the evil Liberal racists grind you down. Your skin tone is why they hate you.

You nailed it hobbyguy. The fact that there are die hard conservatives who still can't admit that the CPC lost for a 3rd time in a row is truly hilarious, but more-so embarrassing as it shows that right wingers truly are the most sensitive snowflakes.

And the CPC becoming more and more divided - first simply so-cons vs centrist conservatives - we now have blatant denialism forming a 3rd faction within the CPC. Thankfully the election wasn't last year or the conservatives still crying about the election would be running out of tissues.

The stupid party has yet another spelling and grammar accident. These dullards wanted to run the country?

Maybe these dimwits refuse to reveal their vaccination status because they don't know how to spell it.

I agree, the Liberal dullards wanted to run the country, and fell far short of their goal of a majority, thank to the great work of the incredibly intelligent CPC. Keep up the great work Erin! The CPC has an incredibly bright future, as the Liberals continue to fall apart at the seams, and rightly so.

So happy to see the CPC sticking together right now to take down the awful regressive Liberals. Great job Erin!

Iffy O'Toole's positives plummet. Looks like the flip-flopping and beleaguered CPC "leader" is back to his natural state of "totally irrelevant."

He's got Loopy Leslyn forcing his latest cowardly and spineless about-face to thank for this.

Some interesting stuff in there.

O'Toole's personal brand is taking a beating. Back to - 19. His "Quebec strategy" failed, and Blanchet shows strongly at +13. O'Toole hits a new high for negative impressions of 44% - bringing him into a tie with Trudeau (but Trudeau has much higher positives).

The PPC is now the second place party in Alberta at 16%. That's a serious number politically. While not producing any seats, one can bet that the other political parties, and especially the CPC, are taking note of PPC positions.

The 16% for the PPC is especially significant in terms of the fractures in the CPC. O'Toole gambled on "leftward ho" and that seems to have breathed a lot of life into the PPC as a "political home". In today's context it really puts O'Toole between a rock and hard place. The PPC are adamant that MPs ought not be subject to vaccine mandates - and 31% of CPC voters and 34% of CPC members agree with that position. Meanwhile 77% of Canadians (80% in BC) agree with the Liberal position that MPs should be subject to the vaccine mandate. No wonder O'Toole is flipping and flopping like a fish out of water!

Not really. Erin is doing a fantastic job. Let's just hope that Leslyn stays in government, as it appears that the strategy is to continue to hurl racial epithets at her, which is disgusting.

Liberals, standing in the House and hurling racist abuse towards Lewis was shocking. Bad enough, but that stunt with bananas in the Parliament cafeteria was just appalling. Singh and the rotten NDPers just sat there and laughed. Erin would have gone over and b-slapped a few Liberals, but he was busy going back to the dessert table for thirds so none of it made the news. But it's all so true.

I didn't see this, but thank you for drawing attention to it. Just as we are seeing racial abuse being hurled at her on these forums, it doesn't surprise me that it is happening elsewhere.

I have searched over the past two days for references or factual statements that "racial slurs or comments" were made or directed towards Leslyn Lewis in Parliament. What I have discovered are comments directed towards her during her campaign for CPC leadership by supporters of other candidates. Perhaps, someone can direct me towards factual references to these claims.

Unfortunately, Mr O'Toole and the CPC find themselves in a very difficult position. They are not unified. A portion of their elected members to Parliament cannot participate in sittings because they are not vaccinated and Mr O'Toole will not allow hybrid sittings. It is time that the Party decides to work together for the good of Canada. They have an important job as Opposition. That job can only be accomplished with full participation in Parliament. Opposition is more that just criticism fired from the sidelines. It means you must offer constructive alternatives. At the moment the CPC seems more interested in destructive implosion than holding our elected government to task.
