I've been happy with it so far but my family is on the healthier side of lucky and we've always had extended coverage though work but I can certainly understand the ranking we received and know that I've heard from friends with issues along the same lines

I did just return from a visit to the US and I watched my step-father have to go to the pharmacy 4 times in one afternoon to deal with a single medication issue ... brutal

I've honestly never had any problem with our health system (other than the "Dreaded Lurg!™" Fiasco!)

The writer of this letter to Castanet is astute in his observations about our “healthcare” system and its glaring flaws

Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice. There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice, at which there is simply no way to become THAT ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.

No problems with our health system?

Currently, there are between 750,000 to 900,000 British Columbians without a family doctor.
https://globalnews.ca/news/8739984/bc-g ... y-doctors/

And this is just family doctors, and in BC.
How about the rest of Canada?
How about all the other specialists?

Our health system is in the toilet.

Which health system are we talking about? Healthcare is provincial, this should be discussed in the bc forum. Federally, it’s largely a funding issue.

The entire health system in Canada is a mess. And yes, much funding comes from the feds.
Is there an increase in the budget for national health?

Our country needs billions poured into our national health system.
Where is that funding?

Gone, like fairy dust.

Probably those funds land up in “fighting” the climate.

I feel so protected now.

I wouldn’t mind the “battle of the Climate” so much if simple things were done first, such as, picking up litter (or don’t litter in first place), keeping stream banks cleared of trash, repair or replace those blackish smokey, emission pipes coming from gravel and cement trucks, etc.

These things are next to us physically, easily fixed or preventable.

Canada’s healthcare system isn’t perfect - there’s definitely a shortage of doctors and healthcare workers that needs to be addressed sooner than later. That said, myself and my family have always received healthcare in a timely manner and we’ve no complaints about the quality of care.

Me neither. At least we don't go bankrupt getting our tonsils out......but there will always be whining from the peanut gallery because, you know the grass is always greener on the other side.

I'm not going to overshare my situation, but I am into my second year of waiting for an "elective" surgery to fix something that's causing me crippling pain and I'm far from alone. I am currently dealing with consequences of the delay in getting the surgery, which has directly caused other health issues, so my surgery is delayed further while I receive care for the complications, which is costing all of us exponentially more than if I had surgery in a timely manner, when I first needed, it 18 months ago. I don't blame the feds, I blame IHA for my particular situation, because other health regions even within the province did not have their hospital services, especially their ability to continue with necessary surgeries for non-life-threatening conditions, collapse the way we did in IHA, under the weight of the pandemic.

So yeah, if you've only ever had great interactions with our healthcare system, which, until a few years ago was the case with me, it's easy to think it's fine, but when you're unlucky enough to experience it's failure personally, the terrifying cracks in the system are apparent. Unfortunately, if everyone who hasn't personally experienced it dismisses it as grass is always greener whining from the peanut gallery, rather than taking it seriously, there will be a lot more failure and a lot more people suffering before anything gets fixed.

All that being said, I am still supportive of our universal health system, the Canada Health Act and it's expansion into Pharma and Dental coverage and absolutely opposed to private for profit healthcare, or even some sort of 2 tier hybrid healthcare system.

No money for health care cause we spend it helping people like junkies who don't contribute, but you cannot help the working tax payer.

Not talking about the green grass, just talking about the dog doodoo on our grass.

There is a huge shortage of doctors. Did you not read any of the above links?
Here's a brief summary,
More than 16% of British Columbians do not have a family doctor.

And to add to the examples.
A family member waited seven months for surgery on a broken foot.
During that pain filled time she could not drive and could barely walk.
Should I have told her to grin and bare it?

My apologies for the whining.
