Is democracy under threat?

Currently the focus of curtailment of Canadian citizens’ rights and freedoms has been on the EA. It’s implementation, withdrawal, and its review. Charter Rights and Freedoms are paramount in Canadian democracy.

During the past two pandemic years threats and violence has been directed against several racial and immigrant groups inappropriately blamed for the spread of the virus. It is time for Canada to have in place legislation making it an offense to foster, incite, or spread racial discrimination, hatred, or violence on the basis of one's origin or membership (or non-membership) in an ethnic, national, racial, or religious group or to use threatening or vilifying language intended for the general public consumption, or broadcast on large scale private communication facilities (eg: Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, Podcasts).

“The European Union has agreed on new regulations that require social media companies and online marketplaces to remove illegal content. Advertisement targeting minors will also be banned.

“Users will now be given the opportunity to flag illegal and harmful content. Once the DSA enters into force, probably by early 2024, tech platforms will be obliged to delete illegal content, like hate speech, faster. “ These regulations should be in place by 2024.

While some may feel that this is type of legislation infringes on the freedom of speech, it does protect the rights of all citizens Canada. In our democracy, citizens must be able to discuss matters of public policy, criticize governments and offer their own solutions to social problems. However, these publicly held opinions should not threaten the safety or infringe upon the rights of other people. The freedom of expression may/should be limited by laws against hate propaganda or child pornography because they prevent harm to individuals or groups.

In case anyone forgot already, he is the gentleman who tried in vain to save taxpayers from JT rewarding shipbuilding contracts worth billions $$$$ from going directly into pockets of the Irvings.

I think most Canadians found that out in 2015 and stop the oligarch in making at that time. Thanks for bringing that up.
