CERB - AG suspects 27 Billion in over payments

Post by normaM »

An interesting read even with the darn ads

ah yes but CRA watches us :/

SNIP
– The CRA is investigating 10 of its employees it suspects received the Canada Emergency Response Benefit while employed by the agency that was charged with doling it out.

SNIP
In February, the head of Employment and Social Development Canada’s integrity services told MPs the department had fired 49 workers who had received the benefit while still working for the organization.
SNIP
The agency also expects to pour another $692 million in audit, verification and collection efforts until 2026, meaning a total bill of over $1 billion by the end of its post-payment verification programs.

Aaah yes. That CERB money pit is always open for more cash.

Lordy, we have the stupidest govt ever on this globe.

Remember that the federal govt took on thousands of costly new employees in the last year.

No imagination needed to figure out what dept was fattened.

I know 3 people who got hit with paying back the CERB that they stole, you get a phone call, then a text then a letter when you get that letter you have I think it's 10 days to either pay all that money back instantly or they either freeze your bank account and/or garnishee your wages. If you do not file your income tax for a few yrs thinking that they will forget about it, you are dead wrong, the CRA never forgets and that amount will have a large chunk of interest added to it.

it was pretty disgusting see the abuse of that CERB money that some were not entitled to get and I agree Norma it really does seem like they gave that money out on a whim
