While the rest of the world gets on doing business with Ch (now the second largest economy on the planet), Canada has its head still inserted way up itself. Canada’s loss, the rest of the business world win. Canada again gets sucked into competitive business gaslighting. Again other countries will beat Canada to securing huge contracts, such as LNG, oil, wine, minerals, tourism, etc.

Canada needs multiple customer countries, even if we don’t agree with everything they do. Your car dealer will still sell you a car, even if you have different political views from the car dealer! Business is business.

And we wonder why we’re falling behind

Oh, you mean ESL classes are considered education?

I thought they were really here to buy 6 overpriced houses and play landlord with mom's Chinese factory profits.

Why would we want to do that? Do you know how much $$$ international students bring to the university towns? UBC would not be one of the top 50 universities in the world without international students.

This is the Canada topic board.
While international students aren't necessary for the economy, they definitely play an important role and have significant impacts on our schools.

especially spots for doctors.
Over the last ten years, the UBC Faculty of Medicine has expanded, more than doubling medical school enrolment and significantly increasing the number of postgraduate trainees. Within this expansion, the Province of B.C. has worked to reduce barriers to practice for International Medical Graduates, and has more than tripled entry-level IMG residency training positions to 58.

There are over 800,000 foreign students in Canada. How many are filling spots that should be taken by Canadian students?

And by all means, Chinese students should not be on that list.

Added. These 800,000+ also need places to live.
I'm posting this from Traditional lands of the British Empire & the current Lands of The Dominion of Canada.
I also give thanks for this ethos richness bestowed on us via British Colonialism.

It makes little sense to me either. Fill up those vacant spots with overseas students, get their training as doctors and then leave. Sure, they PAID to fill those seats, but in the meantime Canada is desperately short of doctors to fill our own needs. In what fantasy world does this scenario make any sense at all?

The sideline is they also cut into much needed housing for Canadian citizens. Where is the outrage?
Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice. There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice, at which there is simply no way to become THAT ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.

Send all those students from China back home immediately, money paid is being held.

Unfortunately the Ottawa putz doesn’t have the balls to do this. He’s in love with China.

Chinese students fuel our economy and pay enormous money to universities that subsidize domestic students

Sure, let's shoot ourselves in a foot.
