Before planning your trip to China, just think of the name "Michael".
I'm posting this from Traditional lands of the British Empire & the current Lands of The Dominion of Canada.
I also give thanks for this ethos richness bestowed on us via British Colonialism.

Making the decision to travel to China would be reckless IMO

Oh, all those CDN students on wait lists?

How's it help them?
By subsidizing and paying for more seats.
More seats for who?

Canadians in wait lists while 40yr olds from Asia pay their way to front of the line.

What the heck kind of education system do we have in this backward Liberal Canada?

Fees from international students help to subsidize and pay for more seats for Canadian students. The fact there are still waitlists has nothing to do with international students taking seats. Not many Canadian students lined up for ESL programs. It is a far more complex issue than that but the money collected from international students helps to fund seats for other programs.

.
If Canada hadn’t squandered our oil & gas windfall, our universities could be fully funded, and not need to depend on revenue from foreign students, wherever they may come from.

I spent a year and a half over 2 visits working in China back in 2002. I worked for a Chinese computer consulting company supporting the biggest Chinese bank systems. Worked in 14 different cities all over China. The company was strictly Chinese based in Beijing, I had no Canadian legal protections but that wasn't an issue and they paid very well into my Canadian bank account. Overall, it was the experience of a lifetime, mostly good, sometimes difficult.

You couldn't pay me enough to do that again now with the tensions of the last few years.

Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice. There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice, at which there is simply no way to become THAT ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.

Actually, we're talking about the administration of a multi-million dollar budget with multiple revenue streams (private and public) spread out and divided among multiple departments. Fees paid by international students more than pay their way and excess revenue is used to subsidize other departments helping to create more seats for Canadian students. There are other reasons and constraints in fully funding public post secondary education but we digress.

Ahhh, welcome to the business world.

What you're really stating is that Education, something that I believe should operate as Non-profit, is operating today as Big Business. Lots of layers of administrators, overpaid lecturers and profs, a thick smog of Liberal $cience clouds the process and operation. Post secondary in Canada is a Liberal Vote Factory. Easy to see it when you refuse to support it. They all have their hands out, send them your money and vote as they tell you.

As someone who has created textbook content in Canada, for both types of educators, it's obvious to me how these people work. Big Unions, Big Costs, Poor Product. Candian Students pay the price. The ESL gang is just here to buy their mom 8 rental homes in Canada.
