If this is a reference to Justin I agree with you.

Why is Rota still there? He doesn't have the confidence of the house, never really has, and he certainly doesn't have the confidence of Canadians. I'm not a Trudeau fan, by any stretch, but I don't expect him to be vetting invited guests. We have the mounted horsey police and a number of fumbling alphabet agencies, that should be feeling some pie on their face, for that
... but yeah, the video was funny.

Rota still there because I'm sure he was promised " just say sorry and it will be ok"
Not everyone in the chamber could know who they were standing and clapping for, so it's beyond embarrassing for them as well. I mean who would think someone would be so damn stupid as to invite someone who spent 2 years in the SS to chambers?
I fully expected to read he resigned this morning, whole day ahead still say he gone today

Exactly, if proper protocols were followed then PM office was to be involved in doing a background check.Gone_Fishin wrote: ↑Sep 25th, 2023, 3:02 pm The prime minister's office is responsible for vetting ALL guests to Parliament.
Not the speaker, not Stephen Harper, not Putin - the PMO has sole responsibility under our Parliamentary Procedure.
Why should Rota fall on his sword for Trudeau's incompetence, and arrogance?
(can’t just invite anyone onto the floor of House of Commons)
Parliament procedures is all about protocols.
I don't give a damn whether people/posters like me or dislike me, I'm not on earth to win any popularity contests. I am an old cantankerousness grump that happens to be very opinionated.

yes, calling Hunka a " Canadian hero" sealed Rota's fate Since they knew his military history as mentioned in the intro who missed the SS part?
He should resign today before they turf him next week

Didn't he say " fought against the Russians" Should have immediately resonated as to what side he fought on in WW2.

SNIP
House of Commons Speaker Anthony Rota will be meeting with the House leaders of all parties today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has confirmed, telling reporters on his way in to a cabinet meeting that he's sure "they'll have very important conversations."

Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice. There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice, at which there is simply no way to become THAT ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.

Not to worry though jt says the speaker of the house is “ reflecting” on what has transpired. Surely that will be followed by “ we” must do better

Re: Standing Ovation in Parliament - for a former Nazi
How does a member of the SS, who is responsible for the mass murder of innocent civilians get to walk around enjoying a free life? If I were a real Nazi (and not what the Liberals call a Nazi), I would probably want to keep my head down and not agree to a Liberal invitation. Maybe he thought the Liberal party would protect him... seeing they love to celebrate people like Omar Khadr, etc. Perhaps the Liberal party will speak up and tell us this was their plan all along to discover and expose this war criminal.
