Death toll from earthquakes goes past 40,000. Turkish authorities say 35,418 people have been killed in the country, while more than 5,800 people are dead in Syria, according to the UN and the Syrian government.
Ten International Organization for Migration trucks carrying humanitarian assistance have passed through the Bab al-Salam crossing into northwestern Syria from Turkey.

From Aljeerza, past 40,000 for Turkey and Syria.

Why are we being asked to send money and not actual food aid?
the UN and other aid agencies only want money so that they can buy what they want from who they want.
much of the money is lost due to administration costs and corruption.
I am tired of that. Canada used to send actual food products purchased from out farmers.

Or just donate directly to local people having tough time in life, or to low-overhead organizations that get the resources into the hands of people in need.

It's tragic really. And here's Turkey with 84 Billion worth of damage, huge population loss, the extent of which is still growing and likely a huge migration out of the area coming. To go where though?

Each and every time there is a ‘crises’ in the world of one stripe or another, be it from a kid who died in the waters while being transported from one place to another, be it earthquake victims, or war in one place or the other, or exodus, either forced or willingly from home country, just what country suddenly opens the floodgates and lets in a tsunami of people at a moments notice?

Whether or not said receiving country can handle the influx monetarily, health wise or just plain old housing, they are allowed in and are taken care of.

In “normal” times many would not even qualify by a hair to be let in, but disasters of all sorts push aside real concerns in the virtue signalling, receptive country
