Denmark Introduces Permanent Border Controls with Sweden Due to Gang Violence

The Danish government will introduce permanent border controls with Sweden due to the rising tide of gang violence plaguing the Scandinavian country.

Justice minister Nick Hekkerup said on Thursday that the threat from Swedish organised gang violence means Denmark must enact stricter border controls with its northern neighbour, Swedish broadcaster SVT reports.

“Organised crime from Sweden is central here. We have seen a worrying development in Sweden with explosions and increased violence,” Hekkerup said. “We have been monitoring this and decided to strengthen border protection against Sweden,” he added.

The decision also comes after Swedish residents were implicated in two major criminal incidents earlier this year in Denmark, the most notable event being the bombing of the Tax Authority at Østerbro in Copenhagen in August that destroyed much of the facade of the office building.

A 22-year-old man from the multicultural Swedish city of Malmö, which lies close to the border with Denmark, was later arrested in connection with the bombing. Last month, another suspect, again, a Swedish national, was arrested at Copenhagen airport.

Denmark Prepared To Build Wall on German Border During Migrant Crisis

Newly released documents claim that the Danish government was prepared to build a wall on its southern border with Germany during the height of the 2015 migrant crisis.

The documents claim that the government was fully prepared to build a 33-kilometre long wall across the border and had already spent nearly 22 million Danish Krone (£2.5m/$3.2m) on materials to build the structure, Danish newspaper Berlingske reports.

Minister of Justice Nick Hekkerup revealed the plan to the Danish parliament showing that the Ministry of Defense’s Material and Purchasing Board had purchased 37,500 barbed spirals, 37,000 barbed wire posts, 35,000 barbed wire pick along with equipment such as gloves and scissors to build the barbed wire fences.

According to Hekkerup, 90 percent of the materials purchased by the Ministry of Defence were not used and remain in storage after the ministry determined in June of 2017 that it would not require it.

Søren Pind, who served as Danish Justice Minister during the migrant crisis, originally talked about the proposed border fence in his book “Free Words” released last month.

More than 24 hours have passed since Essex police were called to investigate a container truck with 39 dead bodies inside, including one victim believed to be a teenager. And while police have been tight-lipped, some new information trickled out on Thursday.

British media reported that all of the dead found in the truck were Chinese nationals, according to the BBC. The truck in which they were traveling was refrigerated. Temperatures in these types of trucks can get as low as -25 degrees Celcius, prompting some to speculate that the cooling system may have been turned on accidentally.

Richard Burnett, chief executive of the Road Haulage Association, said conditions for anyone inside the truck were "absolutely horrendous."

Police discovered the bodies at 1:40 am local time on Wednesday at an industrial park in Grays.

Among the victims, Police force said 31 were men and eight women.

Initial suspicions have been confirmed: The Chinese nationals were likely victims of human trafficking.

Shaun Sawyer, the UK's National Police Chiefs Council lead for modern slavery and human trafficking, said that while UK police had prevented thousands of trafficking-related deaths, "tragically, for 39 people that didn't work yesterday."

Reports that the lorry was from Bulgaria have been proven incorrect: Turns out, the truck is believed to have entered the UK from Belgium.

A map provided by the BBC shows that all of the information provided by police on Wednesday about how the cargo arrived into the UK was incorrect. Meanwhile, local churches held candlelit vigils for the victims.

The trailer arrived in Purfleet on the River Thames from Zeebrugge in Belgium. A truck came to pick it up, and they left the port at Purfleet shortly after 01:05. The truck unit came from Northern Ireland.

The Bulgarian ministry of foreign affairs said that it was "highly unlikely" that the deceased were Bulgarians, and that the truck was registered in Bulgaria under the name of an Irish-owned company.

The Conservative MP Jackie Doyle-Price for the area where the bodies were found called for an international response to the deaths.

"We have partnerships in place but those efforts need to be rebooted, this is an international criminal world where many gangs are making lots of money and until states act collectively to tackle that it is going to continue," she said.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said it was an "unimaginable tragedy and truly heartbreaking".

Unfortunately, the UK isn't a stranger to these types of incidents: In 2000, 58 Chinese nationals were found dead in a lorry at Dover after suffocating to death. Elsewhere in Europe, back in 2015, the bodies of 71 people were found in an abandoned truck on an Austrian motorway. Police believed they were victims of a Bulgarian-Hungarian human trafficking ring.

So far, the only lead is a 25-year-old man from Northern Ireland who drove the truck. He was arrested and is the main suspect into a murder investigation that has been launched over the incident. He has been identified as Mo Robinson from County Armagh.

The Black Ax is said to be an international group which operates in several southern European countries. Fifteen members of the group were arrested this week in Gothenburg in connection to drug trafficking cases, Sveriges Radio reports.

Earlier this week, Gothenburg police arrested 15 drug smugglers connected to an international cocaine and heroin smuggling ring, finding 115 million Swedish kronor’s ($11,647,775/£9,467,375) worth of drugs.

Swedish customs say they seized approximately 300lbs of narcotics in total, including 110lbs of heroin. Prosecutor Anna Svedin noted that the network was based in the Netherlands and said: “Some of the defendants have links to Black Ax, but not all.”

Lennart Karlsson, intervention manager at the Klara area in Stockholm, said that police have noted an increased presence of the Nigerian mafia in recent years. Mr Karlsson said: “The really heavy establishment has been over the last five years.”

Blood flows in the streets of Ferrara, Italy, as Nigerian migrants wage war with machetes, axes and knives, local media reports.

A slew of gruesome attacks have taken place in the last week in shop squares, parks, and bars as gang members and drug dealers settle disputes with lethal weapons in the once-peaceful bastion of high culture and gastronomy.

Police and emergency services have been responding to scenes of frequent clashes where butchered combatants are found lying in pools of gore.

"A nightmare... We are at the fourth fight on the street in two days. Here it is normal now," said a local official.

Ferrarese senator Alberto Balboni has filed an urgent inquiry with the Ministry of the Interior, warning that "ferocious" Nigerian crime syndicates have exploited the asylum system to infiltrate Italy "according to a strict paramilitary principle of territorial control, aimed at the trafficking and distribution of drugs, the exploitation of prostitution (including child prostitution), the trafficking of human beings and the facilitation of illegal immigration."

Balboni asserts that African mafia figureheads are already operating in Italian cities, where they are organizing and arming their troops to engage in the same "tribal" warfare ravaging their homelands.

Meanwhile, leftists continue to downplay the existential threat to Italians, instead denouncing concerned citizens as racists.

"Faced with this scenario that should worry everyone, only the Democratic Party seems not to worry, minimizing the phenomenon and stirring a non-existent danger of racism - which simply does not exist in Italy - to justify the suicidal policy of acceptance for all that unfortunately led Italians to the current situation," Balboni said.
