Hmmm. Generally the left support more proactive measures such as public education, job-training and back to work programs, mental health and addiction services and other programming that has been shown to have a real impact, whereas the right generally support more reactive after the fact measures, such as policing, failed drug laws, etc., that have been shown to cost as much as ten times the amount (or even more in the case of failed drug laws) to deal with the problems created by the lack of such programming. Generally many centrists recognize the value of these leftist ideas and that is why we normally elect more centrist governments that won’t throw out the baby with the bathwater so to speak.

Well, I should make a distinction between the liberal left and regressive left (or identitarian left). The reason by fvkasm2x finds the left more extreme and hateful is that identitarian left makes up a far larger portion of the left than the identitarian right makes up of the right.

I appreciate that distinction being made Glacier, and I agree it is the extremists, on both sides, that are causing this rift and increased divisiveness in society and who need to be called out and challenged. We can’t afford to just ignore them any longer because there are too many people who are all to willing to let other people do their thinking for them. However, I would question your hypothesis that the identarian left makes up a far larger portion of the left than the identarian right makes up of the right. I wonder, for example, how many people accept the messages of deliberately misleading memes that suggest universities promote socialist thinking or that Donald Trump is solely responsible for the state of the US economy, or the “fake news” that people are walking away from the left in droves (just so we stay on topic). After all, it is identity politics and its relation to populism that has helped an unbalanced and dangerous clown to become president of the United States.

The Republicans better move fast and act far more decisively if they ever hope to regain any credibility or relevance anytime. Even without a direct link to Russian collusion, it is looking like we already have an incredibly strong case for conspiracy to commit a federal crime (election tampering). If the Republicans don't respond appropriately to this, and quickly, the number of people already leaving the party in droves will morph into a tsunami. It is looking like the Grand Old Party is done for.

If people were really “walking away” in the numbers you suggest, it would be reflected in polling data. All polls though, and I literally mean ALL of them show ever increasing democratic support. As much as you want to buy into this Russian bot and astroturfer led “movement”, it’s just not really happening.
