Here I thought there was nothing lower than a snakes belly in a rut in a ditch. I was wrong.

HOUSTON —When the curtain parted in College Station, Tex., revealing a two-toned blue locomotive standing nearly 16 feet tall and bearing the number 4141 in his honor, former president George H.W. Bush looked around excitedly, his face breaking into a smile.

One word left his lips: Wow.

Thirteen years later, that same Union Pacific locomotive will escort the 41st president to his final resting place in College Station on Thursday afternoon after funeral ceremonies in Washington and Houston.

'Mission complete': Sully the service dog to accompany Bush one last time.

Sully H.W. Bush, a yellow Labrador service dog who worked with the late former President George H.W. Bush, will be traveling with Bush's casket on his flight to Washington, DC, according to a source familiar with the plans.

Jim McGrath, Bush's spokesman, posted an image of Sully next to Bush's casket on Sunday along with the caption, "Mission complete."

Sully is named after former airline pilot Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger III, who became famous for landing a damaged passenger jet on the Hudson River and saving all 155 passengers and crew in 2009.

I met H.W. once personally in, of all places, a fly-in fishing lodge in Labrador. This was after his term in office. I have it on good authority that he did not tie his own flies.

I don't agree with a lot of his policies but he lead an amazing life. War hero, businessman, congressman, ambassador, liaison, CIA director, vice president, president. He loved his family and his country and devoted his life to service of others. You don't see many people like that in politics these days. The concept of service is dying out with the generations of Bush and McCain and those like them.

Like his policies or not but he deserves some respect.

Little off topic comment.
After seeing clips from funnel in Washington, I'd say Bill Clinton looks much more sickly then Jimmy Carter... looks like Bill could drop dead any moment.

I thought he looked unwell, too. He seemed to be breathing through his mouth more often than not, and I thought perhaps he has a sinus cold.

Lots of very moving tributes. Thanks for posting those two, Glacier.

George H.W. Bush's Secret Service detail signs off with a heartfelt message.

The U.S. Secret Service officially concluded its detail of George H.W. Bush on Friday morning after nearly 40 years of protecting the former president code-named "Timberwolf.''

The detail officially ended at 6:01 a.m. Friday in College Station, Texas, on the morning after Bush was buried on the grounds of his presidential library at Texas A&M University.
