Zimbabwe fuel protests: Opposition activist Pastor Mawarire arrested

Police in Zimbabwe have arrested a prominent activist, Pastor Evan Mawarire, as protests against soaring fuel prices enter their third day.

Mr Mawarire was taken from his home and charged with inciting violence.

Offices and businesses remained closed on Wednesday and the streets of the capital, Harare, were largely deserted.

Civilians beaten and abducted in major Zimbabwe crackdown

Police and military have launched a massive crackdown in Zimbabwe after what appears to be have been a widespread breakdown of public order linked to food and fuel shortages in the impoverished country.

Access to the internet and social media was shut off for most of Wednesday, and armed soldiers were patrolling the streets of major cities as unidentified men were reported to be sweeping through poor neighbourhoods of Harare, the capital, and beating people “at random”.

Reports of Zimbabwe blocking social media, WhatsApp as protests rage

The country’s government has been accused of blocking access to the internet amid violent protests.
Zimbabweans on social media are complaining that the Zimbabwean government is blocking social media and WhatsApp as violent protests over a massive fuel hike continue to grip the country.

One user complained on Twitter of their WhatsApp being blocked. Twitter still seemed accessible at the time.

Since then, another user alleges Twitter was blocked as well, saying she was only able to send the tweet out as she used a virtual private network (VPN).

Another user tweeted information on how to set up and use a VPN to bypass the alleged blocking of social media and private messaging apps.

South Africa only needs to look at Zimbabwe as their future, if they allow the same corruption to continue to fester and spread.

What a mess. i was hoping once Mugabe was out of there that things would get better. I feel sorry for people that are trying to live there.
On a side note, a friend of mine has family still in Zimbabwe, (she is in South Africa) she told me a few years ago about her brother and his family coming to visit her from Zim. They had to get permission from the government to go. She said the first morning at the breakfast table the 2 little kids just sat there staring at the 3 different jams for toast on the table. In Zimbabwe you have a choice of one, whatever is available. They couldn't decide which one to pick.

A doctors’ group said it had treated more than 60 gunshot wounds in a “human rights crisis.”

Friends of mine in Kelowna fled Zimbabwe in the 1970s. They left with the clothes on their backs. The mantra at the time was "one man, one vote". They said that it was going to be "one man, one vote, one time", and pretty much, they were dead right. South Africa really isn't any better. The ANC is charge now, and is never going to be thrown out.

LOL - yes they are aware of that. In fact they still call their homeland "Rhodesia". A time when people still had food in their bellies.

So many people were hoping things would change for the better.

Zimbabwe pastor says government acts like Mugabe

The Zimbabwe pastor and activist facing a charge of subversion has arrived at court and says the country's new government is behaving like that of former longtime leader Robert Mugabe.

Evan Mawarire faces 20 years in prison if convicted. He is among more than 600 people arrested this week amid protests against the government's dramatic fuel price increase. Gasoline in the economically shattered country is now the most expensive in the world.

Rhodesia was once known as the bread basket of Africa.....then the communists took over.

Beginning of the end.....Moscow and China backed communist liberation organizations.

Part of the Socialist/communist world revolution.....

and another nation turned into a Venezuela....

Government has SHUT ALL SOCIAL MEDIA off so we are being held hostage in our own country - pleeeease someone help us!!!
