To recline or not to recline? That is the question

Post by mexi cali »

This story bin makin the rounds. It is a topic near and dear too me and when I jumped into it I thought I would be in the minority but most seemed to agree with me; that being that reclining your seat on an airplane is simply inconsiderate.

We all understand that it is your right to do so but that old saying "just because you can do something doesn't mean you should" seems appropriate here.

Anyhow, check out the link and put down your thoughts. This will be interesting, I think.

My favourite strategy for dealing with people in front of my reclining is to open my air nozzle fully and point it at the top of their head. Nothing like a blast of cold air onto your bald spot to make you shift your seat back upright.

I have no problem with it if the person in front of me reclines.

I feel that when someone pays for their ticket, that is for the space between the armrests and all of the space that the seat allows.
What's worse is a passenger that is larger laterally than the seat space allows. We have to make sure that our carry-on luggage must fit within certain confines, why should those confines also be required for passengers?

If a passenger is uncomfortable with the space provided, they are welcome to upgrade their ticket. Likewise, if they can't fit between the armrests without hanging over, they should have to pay for 1st class, or pay for 2 seats.

Other than that, the airlines could always enlarge the seats for everyone and share the cost of lost revenue to all passengers.

Self-entitled twit ... just because the seat reclines doesn't mean you have to do it.

One of her tweets ... I tried 3 times to do this quietly. I’ve lost time at work, had to visit a doctor, got x-rays, and have has horrible headaches for a week.

One response to her "oh poor me" tweets ... So we're just gonna leave out the fact at the 1 minute mark on your original video, you clearly smirk and revel in the fact you're reclining in his lap while hes trying to finish his drink/meal? Just as wrong, even more so than he is. Publicity chaser!

Airline seats recline - everyone knows this. If people want more space there are upgrades available. My seat my recline button makes reclining my choice.

If someone simply asked me not to recline I’d generally be fine with it. But if instead of asking they just start punching my seat that thing ain’t moving till we land. And I may brush my hair while napping.

I’m guessing the guy didn’t like being stuck in the back with no recline for himself.

Grab an emergency exit seat. The seats in front don't recline.

I usually grab a window seat and just lean into the window to accommodate the large passengers beside me who decide they own my armrest and need to man-spread into half my leg room.

Someone pointed out, and correctly so, that the seats recline the same today as they when there was extra room between the rows. They have moved them up so close that the recline function does cause problems with viewing a screen or eating etc.

I make a point of asking the person in front of me if they wouldn't mind not and I'll maybe buy them a drink or something. So far no one has said no.

There was a woman in the row ahead of us a year or so ago, not right in front of me and as soon as she was able, she reclined her seatback and then she sat up stick straight for the entire flight.

That's childish. If someone infront of you is bothering you enough by simply reclining the 10° an aircraft seat allows then ask them politely not to recline.

On the countless flights I've had, a reclined seat hasn't stopped me from eating, watching inflight entertainment or doing laptop work.

And you are fortunate but it doesn't work for everyone.

I'm over 6 ft, not sure why this wouldn't work for everyone? Specifically, if the reclined chair hitting you? Or do you just not like that a bit of your "bubble" was consumed?
