Looks like Ukraine has picked up a few self propelled German PzH2000 howitzers.
They've only got about a dozen of them so far, with 4 or 5 from the Netherlands.

Why would Russia target a shopping mall? https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/6/2 ... y%20showed.

What would happen if Ukraine targeted Russian shopping malls?
Russia is leaving a real foul taste in my mouth when their name comes up. Just pure evil.

^^^ yes indeed, I've been shaking my head at that all afternoon. I personally have a hard time believing anyone thought hey, lets spend a few million bucks putting a hole in a shopping mall no-one has ever heard of.

Perhaps they were aiming for a military target, but missed? As I said before, Russian precision guided munitions always seems to hit the ground, most of it even explodes after doing so, but beyond that, not very precise - apparently.

Judging by the picture .... they did not.

Cruise missile would annihilate that building to smithereens leaving nothing but a crater. To me, this looks like a fire that started because of a missile strike nearby and ammunition blowing up causing fireworks. That's just what I see from this picture.

Russia mentions hitting nearby ammunition depots and manufacturing facilities (Kredmash) in the area, and Ukrainian sources confirm it. There's also a major railway hub nearby with a line running to the manufacturing facilities.

Here's a video from that blast. Notice concrete industrial buildings are annihilated. Notice a giant crate. This is a direct hit of a cruise missile:

On the map you'll see the shopping mall. Up and to the left is the location of plant blown up by the cruise missiles (youtube videos above). Some industrial buildings behind it, some of them might have been hit too. All shopping mall pictures and videos avoid showing the area next to the mall. You can probably understand why now.

So, to me, the shopping center was not hit by Russia but rather became a victim of ammunition blowing up nearby. Not sure if you know what happens when an ammunition stockpile does when it blows... things fly everywhere and cause fires.

Sad nonetheless. But not deliberate.

Videos debunk Russia's lies about missile strike on Ukraine mall
Video has emerged that appears to refute Russian propaganda suggesting that a missile strike on a shopping mall in Ukraine never happened. At least 18 people died and about 60 were wounded in the Monday strike, according to Ukrainian officials, but Russia claims it only hit a legitimate military target near the mall.

Video from security cameras in the area clearly caught the moment when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says a Russian X-22 cruise missile slammed into the shopping center in the central city of Kremenchuk. A shockwave ripples across the area just before people in a park are seen falling to the ground and fleeing for cover. .........

The security camera videos appear to debunk Russian propaganda spread online suggesting the attack was faked and that the Russian military only hit a military facility near the shopping center. Various Russian accounts have suggested the site targeted was a depot stocked with Western-supplied weapons or a base for Ukrainian military vehicles.

CBS News visited the facility just north of the mall, however, and found an asphalt factory. We met Mykola Danyleiko, chairman of the board for the Kredmash Road Machinery Plant, which mixes asphalt to pave roads.

"It's fake," he told CBS News of the Russian claims. "They said we send products from here by railroad. Do you see a railroad?"

The cement plant was hit by a missile on Monday, too, but there was no railway there.

Doesn't seem to matter how many Russian narratives get disproven, there always seems to be that one that feels the need to share them.

Anyways, yep - a whole lot of bull droppings with Russia's Kremenchuck claims.

Here, take a look for yourself...

Here's the geolocate on the video...

So two strikes, neither of which hit the target Russia claims.

Bottom line ---> Russian precision guided munitions missed by about a kilometer, or someone decided to hit the mall to terrorize the population. You pick, either way doesn't reflect well on the mighty Russian military machine.

Thanks for that Drip, I enjoy reading your posts regarding the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

I do hope the Ukrainian army and conscripts keep up the good fight and hit back at Russia when they can.

With more anti air assets, I wonder if Ukraine's grain can go west by train to be loaded out to customers. I don't think Turkey lets anyone(military) through the Bosporus straight if there is conflict upstream , but I wonder if a western naval flotilla idea has been "floated" to protect any grain ships? The port in Odessa Has to be de-mined as well.

It appears Turkey is cooperating and not allowing seized Ukrainian grain to be shipped.
