It would be more than Russia imposing their ways on Ukraine. There would be a massacre first, perhaps with a facade of addressing "war crimes" that Ukrainians have committed. So Ukrainian soldiers have a pretty simple choice right now, possibly die defending Ukraine against Russia, or likely dying in the aftermath. No guarantee the Russians would not also murder, rape, enslave, steal everything from the remaining women, children, and old folks who did nothing more than try to escape bombs. So it's not a choice between a nice life under Russian rule, and dying in warfare.

Leaving all the moral judgements aside, the basic principle was enunciated over 2400 years ago, "The strong do what they will, the weak do what they must". Anything else is a fairy tale.

Today in US Congress they are saying how Ukraine will undergo societal collapse unless the US keep funding their schools, police, firemen, hospitals and civil servants.

US taxpayers are now funding the operation of an entire country.

Should Ukrainians be able to vote in US elections?

Is Ukraine still a country if the US taxpayer is literally keeping the lights on?

What I really wonder now is what kind of terms Russia will dictate? Given the scale of the conflict I assume theyll take Odessa as well and leave Ukraine landlocked. The USA escalated it too far for Russia to be Mr Nice Guy now. That also gives them the most Russophile areas to incorporate and leaves the rest for the EU to pickup.

Is that Russia's idea of how to treat ukrainians? In over a year, Russia has failed to win over the hearts and minds of ukrainians, so how will they do it?
