Sort of like how the average Afghani was herding goats before somebody dropped a bomb on them in the name of freedom?

Ukrainians were busy giving Hunter Biden the crackhead a US Presidential nepotism job for $70,000/month to sit on the countries biggest energy company. Corrupt Ukrainian leaders were also busy letting the US Government come into their country and prostitute it out to US business interests, leaving the people of Ukraine scraps. It was the most corrupt country in Europe after all.

Then - Ukrainians decided it was a good idea to openly proclaim that they would be turning into a country that is openly hostile towards Russia, a nuclear superpower in which Moscow is the capital only a few hundred kilometers away. Russia has been warning against such things for the last 20 or so years but Ukraine said it anyways. "We want to kill Russians and join NATO!"

Russia said nope. That's all.

Ukraine was not minding it's own business.

People are using Putin and his alleged war crimes to make parallels against Bush in Iraq.

It seems increasingly unlikely Ukraine will launch any kind of counter attack at this point. It would only lead to the loss of their last remaining forces. More likely theyll retain it to try and keep some leverage in peace talks. But what we, and Ukraine might find, is once we cry Uncle and want peace the Russians may not be accomodating and will decide to finish the job.

Belarus suggests a cease fire but Russia says that won't help its goals...: https://globalnews.ca/news/9592573/bela ... ire-calls/

So what are those goals poo-tin? attempt to land lock Ukraine? install a Russian friendly government in Kiev? Steal more washing machines for the chips they hold? Rape more Ukrainian women? Take more Ukrainian children to Russia after killing their parents? Goals to be admired I'm sure.

Pootin is a pathetic insecure head of state in the lines of other tin-pot dictators past and present.

Of course the Russians won't quit, regarless of peace efforts, that's not their goal to have this end peacefully. They might go thru the motions of some peace talks to keep the dogs away, but then the talks will "fail", and they will carry on bombing Ukrainins. They want to crush the Ukrainians and take their country. Why would they settle for anything less, when they can just take Ukrain if they want to? In for a penny, in for a pound.

They don't want Ukraine, why would they? It's a corrupt *bleep*, they'd prefer to dominate it economically and politically but without occupation. Sort of the American template, buy off the elites etc.

And thats why the Ukies are unlikely to attack. Losing their last army will just open them right up. Better to maintain it to secure the new borders that Russia decides on.

Did you ever see a more beautiful sight? flushing $billions to keep the blood flowing in Ukraine's killing fields?

Now be honest, people. Is that the most wonderful thing you ever saw?

Three freaking war pigs - happy to steal $hundreds of billions from us, and so very very happy.

Be honest. I would never feel like throwing up after seeing that. never.
If you have to be persuaded reminded bullied pressured bribed incentivized, lied to, guilt tripped, coerced, socially shamed, censored, threatened, paid, punished and criminalized, to gain your compliance- the thing is no good

Nah, forget the nonsense. What he said, in the days before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, was...
“It’s one thing if it’s a minor incursion, and then we end up having a fight about what to do and not do, et cetera. But if they actually do what they’re capable of doing with the force amassed on the border, it is going to be a disaster for Russia.”
It was a response that left room for a nuanced US approach to the growing certainty around Russia taking action in Ukraine. He never said, suggested, or even hinted that "a little incursion was okay".

That's simply Kremlin spin echoed by Tankies.

Scary times with all the misinformation floating around. Almost everyday I see a Sun Tzu quote that isn't real and completely misattributed. (and sure, I even made one up myself in this thread - [icon_lol2.gif] ) Of course, that's just the tip of the iceberg and like every war the first victim was truth.

Anyways, a little early for April Fools Day, but I appreciate the attempt by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation all the same...

70 square kilometers since January, last I checked. At this rate, provided they can keep this pace up, Russia will take Kyiv sometime in the year 2625. But, I don't expect to be around to see it.

Just in... Navel News article.
France Joins AUKUS Submarine Program
Under extended plans, France will join the AUKUS submarine program. This will see advanced nuclear-powered attack submarines built for Australia, United Kingdom and France. The United States is also providing key elements, including interim submarines for the Royal Australian Navy.

...

The upgraded program will be renamed FUKUS after France joins. Following the expected formal announcement, the submerge à trois will become a submerge à quatre. Boris Johnson, who was among the leaders who originally announced the AUKUS program, is said to be keen to join the celebrations. A Downing Street spokesperson has preemptively denied the existence of the planned catered business meetings.

It is understood that Canada will not be allowed to join FUKUS for common decency reasons.

I will give Zelensky credit for being a very effective politician. Holding Bakhmut, although a poor military decision for Ukraine, has been very important to maintain the Ukie will to resist. Now he is also very careful to hold back on any offensive, despite his commanders saying it is coming. He knows the attack cannot win the war, but its defeat will certainly lose it. So keep playing for time and hope for a miracle, but his time is rapidly running out.
