Yes the Ukrainians really have no answer to Russian airpower, or artillery for that matter. It's really not clear where they go from here. At what point do they cease attacking? And what do they do after that?

if Ukraine surrendered. There would be more torture, and it would never end.

Even if every last Ukrainian is dead - and that's the goal, people - the torture will never end.
Dead Ukrainians = Happy Blackrocks.

Interesting article in Der Spiegel that Germany only has 20,000 rounds of 155mm ammunition left. They aim to build their stockpile back up to 230,000 rounda by 2031! That is supposedly enough for 30 days of combat.

Maybe if your a Ukie that is, the Russians were firing 20,000 a day at their peak and make that many in a month.

Id assume all the Western nations are in the same boat... so good luck Ukraine [icon_lol2.gif]

They would have to be based in Poland and only use Ukranian airstrip as jump off points.

I'm still not convinced a handful of F-16 will really change anything. Ukraine lost majority of their own airplanes, and will lose F-16s just as easily.

Lots of cash news today, the EU wants to commit about $12bil annually to Ukraines govt over the next 4 years, down from the current $18bil. Note that excludes military funding, they haven't specified that yet.

The Pentagons accounting error was actually $6bil, not $3bil, so they freed up some cash. How convenient... and incompetent [icon_lol2.gif] some accountants they got there.

Canada's burn rate is about $5-$6bil annually, both military and Ukie govt support. Amazing stuff really, makes you wonder why our govts preach austerity when they can just turn on the money taps like this?

Okay Tankies, question for you. Has anyone heard from WarGonzo since the dramatic trench footage of the other day? I mean the resemblance is striking and the rumours do keep circulating.

I see the WarGonzo telegram is still active, but has Semyon Pegov actually been "WarGonzo-ed"?

You know how I know Ukraines attack has failed? The silence, the prior 16 months we had real-time updates every time a Russian tripped over their shoelaces. Now? Only "tough fighting" or "its a secret".

Even if you discount the Russian updates by half it is still big casualties and equipment losses for Ukraine.

I dunno if it has failed to the extent Russia's attempt to enter Ukraine from Belarus failed but it has not achieved any significant gains as desired. That invasion attempt was a total embarrassing cock-up.
It will be a difficult grind to dislodge dug in Russian troops and equipment currently on Ukrainian soil. Especially not having air superiority.
Perhaps not the best analogy but perhaps one has seen clips of the fighting on Guam and other islands as the US were trying to dislodge the Japanese.

The Russians have had time to mine roads, fields, booby traps and all other never ending nasty surprises, like blowing up a dam.

One thing going in the Ukrainians favor is motivation to kick Russia out of their country. How motivated are Russian conscripts in maintaining a front in someone else's country ? They can't retreat as they get shot at by their own side if they do.

Ukraine I suspect will prevail, but it won't be a cakewalk perhaps like in other actions and could take way longer than expected. Russians are getting smarter with anti drone capability now.
This loss of young lives could end on both sides if Russia would just go back to their side of the border.
Will that happen ? apparently not by Russia's choice.

I'd suggest reading up on what Russia's intent was moving in from Belarus, and their well executed withdrawal of forces from that sector.

Also the comments about motivation are off-base. The only info I've seen is about Ukrainians shooring retreating soldiers and such. Also several well documented instances of HIMARS hitting surrendered troops. And the Ukie recruiting tactics now are... rough.

The motivated troops are DEAD.

The difference with Guam too is the Americans had the advantages in firepower and logistics. I think the best comparison to what the Ukrainians are attempting is the Somme.

Tankie is a pejorative label for communists, particularly Stalinists, who support the authoritarian tendencies of Marxism–Leninism or, more generally, authoritarian states associated with Marxism–Leninism, whether contemporary or historical.

WarGonzo, aka Semyon Pegov is a Russian Military blogger and propagandist. Some of his most notable achievements, publishing fakes and staged videos, getting arrested for drunkely threatening a hotel administrator (Don't you know who I am?) and documenting on video his own feat of stepping on a Russian petal mine. Did I say is? Oh, that's awkward - perhaps he is, his own accounts keep stating he is, but the video seems to show there's a good possibility that he was.

Apparently the US just found another 6.2 Billion for the Ukrainians. Lost due to an accounting error? LOL?

I think Tankie is just emblematic of the whole neocon approach to this war - the Seppos really do think they're fighting commies in defense of freedom etc. This war is America driven end of story, not sure how it can be considered otherwise. And, from a reality based perspective, Ukraine is hooped, again not sure how it could be considered otherwise?

Seppo btw is rhyming slang for Yank and Septic tank, in that theyre both full of *bleep*

 Go Ukraine.

1/3 of Ukraine is Russian. They hate Zelensky, Shmyhal, Reznikov, Nuland etc

Donbass people hate the corrupt Kiev government's guts. Because Kiev wants to genocide them.

And I hear Donbass actually voted to leave Ukraine. Is that true? No one talks about it.
If Quebec voted to leave Canada would we slaughter them all or allow them the freedom to do it?

Ukraine will prevail. Like Vietnam, after four million peasants were slaughtered, they welcomed USA
into their country do do business and now Vietnam has some wealthy people. There's something magical for business men like Larry Fink, when millions of people are dead. It motivates the billionaire - gives them energy.

Hopefully Donbass goes to Russia so USA war pigs will be weakened slightly.
