Not so sure they will be able to penetrate Russian airspace and survive long enough to be able to use their b-61 and 83's

I think that has far more to do with this map that keeps showing up on Russian media. (note: Suwalki corridor)oldtrucker wrote: ↑Mar 24th, 2022, 11:58 amUmm... Maybe they are there for a airshow?Drip_Torch wrote: ↑Mar 24th, 2022, 11:22 am

There's some forces built up in western Belarus.

Re: Nuclear War
^^° so your thinking they will be used for delivering to that area South east of Lithuania? They are variable yield and could be used as neutron weapons airburst over Russian troops. Contact / laydown mode would bleep up the area for a few weeks with fallout..
Speaking of fallout... We can have a nuclear war up until about 6 pm today. After that the upper winds will change not in our favour when Bremerton gets hit. Before 6 pm the winds would keep most of the fallout south.
For those that don't speak nuke... The b2 bomber carries the variable yield b-61 series and b83 series freefall nuclear weapons. These are the only tactical nukes the US has. They can be set for as small as 300 ton yield which when airburst canbe used as a non destructive neutron bomb.

Re: Nuclear War
I'll go this far... There's some very serious planning going on right now. I've seen days where just in the C-17's there's been the capacity to have close to 3/4 of a million pounds of equipment in the air over Europe at a given time.oldtrucker wrote: ↑Mar 24th, 2022, 12:52 pm ^^° so your thinking they will be used for delivering to that area South east of Lithuania? At the moment, I see Canada going into Rzeszow and it's 9 pm. NATO seems to be taking things seriously.

Again, don't think it's going to happen, but the biggest bang for the buck would be during those hours.

If your thinking NATO can do something about it they can't if it is confined to Russia / Ukraine. Same situation with a no fly zone. Sure NATO can try but I don't think NATO/ US is prepared to lose new York or Chicago or London or Brussels or all and more for Kiev

i am thinking that the western world has the ability to take down a nuke before it re-entered the airspace.oldtrucker wrote: ↑Mar 24th, 2022, 4:32 pmIf your thinking NATO can do something about it they can't if it is confined to Russia / Ukraine. Russia KNOWS that if they fire just ONE ICBM The USA would fire everything it had back at them.
Does Russia have the same ability to protect itself? I doubt it, they are losing their tanks and personnel at 50-1 to a bunch of civilians with guns that they just bought last week.

No one is firing any nukes. However, they are all capable.

Re: Nuclear War
You have it backwards. Russia can hit NATO's rv's. NATO has nothing to compare to the s400/500's. Other than the 40 ABM's in fort Greely AK which were made for a one off accidental launch or a small handful of ICBMs from North Koreaalanjh595 wrote: ↑Mar 24th, 2022, 5:21 pmi am thinking that the western world has the ability to take down a nuke before it re-entered the airspace.oldtrucker wrote: ↑Mar 24th, 2022, 4:32 pm

And as for the USA firing everything they have back at them that's not how it works. They would hit strategic targets and hold at least 65% back for second strike. Probably no more than 500 out of 1600 warheads used on a first strike. The price for that could come at the expense of every city over 200,000 in every NATO country including Canada.
Look on the bright side... at the height of the cold war it was every city with a population of 50,000 or more.

And Nagasaki was morning. Had to be before clouds form over the target. Dropping bombs was a visual thing those days.

Nuclear bombs can be within 50 miles of the target and still be very effective.oldtrucker wrote: ↑May 21st, 2022, 11:53 pmAnd Nagasaki was morning. Had to be before clouds form over the target. Dropping bombs was a visual thing those days.
More powerful than the one used at Hiroshima, the bomb weighed nearly 10,000 pounds and was built to produce a 22-kiloton blast. The topography of Nagasaki, which was nestled in narrow valleys between mountains, reduced the bomb's effect, limiting the destruction to 2.6 square miles.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Effects_o ... 20of%20TNT.How much area can a nuclear bomb destroy?
The volume the weapon's energy spreads into varies as the cube of the distance, but the destroyed area varies at the square of the distance. Thus 1 bomb with a yield of 1 megaton would destroy 80 square miles. While 8 bombs, each with a yield of 125 kilotons, would destroy 160 square miles.

The bomb was dropped at 11:02 a.m., 1,650 feet above the city. The explosion unleashed the equivalent force of 22,000 tons of TNT.
