Those charged with seditious conspiracy are accused of working together to use force to stop the peaceful transfer of presidential power.

What about those who deliberately inspired seditious conspiracy, and those who deliberately engaged in promoting disinformation and falsehoods even after the fact to facilitate it's persistence - such as the criminal grifter, Donald Trump, and the other wannabe oligarchs in the rotting Republican Party?

The filing laid out a sweeping if by now well-established account of the plot to overturn the election, which included false claims of election fraud, plans to put forward pro-Trump “alternate” electors, pressure various federal agencies to find irregularities and ultimately push Vice President Mike Pence and Congress to exploit the Electoral Count Act to keep a losing president in power.

“As the president and his associates propagated dangerous misinformation to the public,” the filing said, Mr. Eastman “was a leader in a related effort to persuade state officials to alter their election results based on these same fraudulent claims.”

The biggest problem the US has, and which is bringing about the downfall of the country is the fact that a person like trump can get elected. Now we are seeing the conspiracy charges being brought and the ringleaders from trump on down are being investigated and charged. We are seeing the third tier going to trial, it will keep ratcheting up hopefully we will see trump charged and punished for his treachery.

Of course the problem with the collapse of the US is that it will severely damage us here in Canada.

Jan. 6 committee believes Trump committed ‘criminal’ acts as he fought U.S. election

The U.S. House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol says it believes Donald Trump committed criminal acts, including conspiracy to defraud the United States, in his attempts to block the certification of the 2020 election he lost.

Lawyers for the select committee made the claims in a court filing late Wednesday challenging conservative lawyer John Eastman’s refusal to turn over documents the panel has requested, which relate to his role in trying to persuade then-vice president Mike Pence to reject electors from states won by President Joe Biden.

Eastman, who has said he was acting as a lawyer and advisor for Trump’s re-election campaign, cited attorney-client privilege in a reason for not turning over the documents. But the committee’s court filing argues that claim is voided by a “crime fraud exception.”

The filing proceeds to detail what could be the basis of a criminal case against Trump, Eastman and other potential co-conspirators — the clearest signal yet that Trump could face charges if the U.S. Justice Department were to pursue them.

Nope. The biggest problem the US is facing today is the eroding of their democracy by the Democrats. There is no bigger enemy to freedom than them.

What did the Democrats do on Jan. 6th again? It seems to me it's was all the lawless, seditious. disgruntled, cheating sour grapes Republicans and their gullible minions that were trying to undo the results of a democratically run election that put President Biden into office.

Roger Stone's potential Jan. 6 swan song — and what it means for Trump

On Wednesday, Joshua James, the leader of the Alabama Chapter of Oath Keepers, pleaded guilty to seditious conspiracy and obstruction of Congress for trying to prevent the peaceful transfer of power after the 2020 election. The Oath Keepers — a group of anti-government extremists — were among those who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. As part of his guilty plea, James agreed to cooperate with prosecutors, including providing testimony to a grand jury.

This could spell trouble for longtime Trump associate Roger Stone, who was linked to James in the hours and days leading up to the insurrection. To be clear, there is no publicly available language directly tying Stone to violence, and we have no way of knowing what James will tell prosecutors. And Stone has a knack for getting out of tight spots — especially when he has friends in the White House. It's been a long, wild ride. But could accountability finally be coming for the ignominious, infamous “dirty trickster”?

The Washington Post recently obtained a video showing that a few hours before the Jan. 6 attack, James was in Stone’s suite at the Willard hotel in Washington. James served as Stone’s bodyguard, according to reporting from Politico and others.

It's never good when one of your associates is cooperating with prosecutors as part of what “has become one of the largest, most complex, and most resource-intensive investigations” in American history, according to Attorney General Merrick Garland. This is particularly true for Stone, who was involved in the efforts to protest and possibly overturn the 2020 election. After Trump’s defeat in November 2020, Stone “moved quickly” to help draw thousands of angry Trump supporters to the nation’s capital, according to the Washington Post, which also reported he privately strategized with former national security adviser Michael Flynn and “stop the steal” rally organizer Ali Alexander and used an encrypted messaging app to communicate with another Oath Keepers leader, Stewart Rhodes, later in January. Rhodes is currently awaiting trial on charges of seditious conspiracy. (He has pleased not guilty.)

Stone also told associates that he remained in contact with Trump during the days and weeks before the insurrection, interesting context for investigators continuing to look into Trump’s own role in January 6.........
