Kelowna residents donate supplies and clothes to Ukraine

Post by oneh2obabe »

While it's nice wanting to help out those affected by what's happening in the Ukraine, it would be better to find out what items would actually help before sending items that aren't needed and will most likely be discarded. Pretty sure any money spent on packaging, air freight and/or ocean freighters, trucking costs, etc. would be better as a cash donation to one of the many organizations handling the day-to-day situation.

"Volunteers and refugees just don't have the time to sift through packages of clothes and say 'Oh that's nice, I'll take it with me to Spain' or wherever. They just sort of get on a coach and go.

"What they need is nappies [diapers], sanitary towels, blankets — really useful things that have a one-time use. Consumables, I guess," said Hannerton, a specialist in supporting special needs and traumatized children.

He noted that more boxes containing clothes, strollers and bedding are abandoned in the parking lot each day.

Dance as if no one's watching, sing as if no one's listening, and live everyday as if it were your last.

Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.

Indeed, cash donation is usually best.
The 3 organizations below are equipped to handle those situations.
