UN chief warns global leaders: The world is in 'great peril'
In an alarming assessment, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres told world leaders Tuesday that nations are “gridlocked in colossal global dysfunction” and aren’t ready or willing to tackle the major challenges that threaten the future of humanity and the fate of the planet.
Speaking at the opening of the General Assembly’s annual top-level meeting, the U.N. chief pointed to the war in Ukraine, multiplying conflicts around the world, the climate emergency, the dire financial situation of developing countries, and recent reversals of progress on such U.N. goals as ending extreme poverty and providing quality education for all children.
“Our world is in peril — and paralyzed,” Guterres said.

Not really.

call me when hundreds of thousands of people are being slaughtered in a world war on a monthly basis...everyone likes to think that they live in the "worst time in history" because they have zero references, they only know their own lived experience.Tyrian-Quill wrote: ↑Sep 20th, 2022, 4:32 pmperhaps you are correct, maybe just more time along the human timeline....

So true!!

- ah yes, it is often subjective, true, yet... one's perspective/appreciation though can go far outside of one's own personal experience i.e. thinking reading and learning from others comes into play. One may understand what horror is without having lived it directly just as one may recognise historical relevance not limited to only one’s own experience.

How we see this time period, and what we do about it, I strongly suspect, will ripple far into the future way beyond your existence and mine.
We, you and I, live in the present. my thoughts though are for those who follow us who will have to deal with the ripples
Respectful Regards

What ripples? What are you talking about?? Of course the UN Chief is going to babble on about fake issues, that's his job. Otherwise he's irrelevant, and the world wouldn't need (or perceive a need) the horribly corrupt and stupid UN.Tyrian-Quill wrote: ↑Sep 21st, 2022, 11:33 amThe Green Barbarian wrote: ↑Sep 20th, 2022, 4:39 pm

- ahh, so you agree he is doing his job, (what ever you see that to be) good, we may disagree on what his job is, but it is nice to know we can agree on something :-)
Have a grand day.

The UN was started in Oct. 1945, one could make the case that they were a positive influence in this progress.

The Nuclear bomb was used for the first and only time (used twice but never again) in warfare in August 1945. One could make the case that this bomb has done more to deter a future global conflict than any of those idiots at the UN.The Straken wrote: ↑Sep 21st, 2022, 2:39 pm The UN was started in Oct. 1945, one could make the case that they were a positive influence in this progress.
Is life better now than in 1945? You bet. Did the UN play a role in that? Probably. A small one. And if you live in a country like Israel, it's been a pretty big negative for a long time.

Again, sadly, I detect the odour of Rattus-rattus-finkus.
Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice. There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice, at which there is simply no way to become THAT ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.
