Having a purpose everyday means a lot to some and I can totally understand that, also some married people have a very hard being with their spouses every single moment of every day [icon_lol2.gif]
This is partly why I haven’t pulled the plug, I could retire at any moment. More then likely when I do pull the plug I will probably will go straight into volunteering (or take my truck & camper and become a hermit in back country lol).

Personally I'd never be idle. I'd always be tinkering with how to bring in a bit of cash here and there.
Spend some time and money on establishing an Estate plan, a Legal Will, your wishes and who is the Executor. Watch Grant of Probate videos. Understand the process to help yourself and loved ones.

No doubt she paid her share of taxes, contributed to society and now it's payback time. Good for her.

The last 5 years I worked, I spent a lot of time thinking about retiring and what it would look like and how I would survive. My biggest incentive was when a friend of mine, doing my same job in Vancouver (same pay, same seniority) told me I should do an Excel spread sheet to project my monthly income over the next 2-5-10 years. This would include my pension, my CPP, my OAS as well as my wife's taken at different times during the next 10 years. As advertised, I'm bringing in more than when I was working  This helped me plan financially knowing there would be temporary adjustments along the way.
Next was the phycological aspect of retire. What now?? How do I spend my days when I'm not forced to work, but maybe want to? My focus went to travel. I would tell friends "if we weren't traveling, we were making plans to travel". All good until Covid shut down the world.
So, have your finances in order. Pay off debts. Expect to spend less, or more if you have it (you can't take it with you). Have an exit strategy with a plan for your new career (retirement) and don't look back. So many of my work buddies live in the past. I don't. I look to the future.
MY OPINIONS MEAN NOTHING, SAME AS YOURS

It would take more than a "honey" for me to work on your honey-do list. :swear:
Not sure if I could handle a second one.

I find lots of things to do to keep me busy and none of them involve work - well, except maybe working on my golf game and working out in the gym or going to yoga class. I guess sometimes it's work to figure out where to go for dinner or to cook at home. Oh ya, and then there's the dishes. We have a dishwasher. His name is Steve.

It's astonishingly sad that this fact needs to be explained to people who want to think they are adults.

We actually take turns at cooking and have a simple rule. When she cooks I do the dishes and then when I cook I do the dishes. In fairness though, she makes the bed - well, except on Mondays when the maid changes the sheets.

Don’t retire.

There are plenty of studies showing the mental health decline of seniors who retire and lose their sense of purpose in life. It takes a special person who can retire and remain truly happy and fulfilled. If that’s you… congratulations. I won’t be taking that chance.
