Thousands of scientists recently published an article denouncing global warming as fake. Do a search on the Internet and ask yourself why so many are calling it a hoax.
If that's disinformation, then somebody is buying the narrative.
You will also find that they are finally catching and charging pyromaniacs in Provinces like Alberta and BC.
Summer is and has always been the fire season. Some years are mild, others are bad.
It's the lack of proper forest management that usually fuels large fires.
Add to that the changes to the way Forestry chases after fires compared to many years ago, and you'll find out that the old way of attacking burns with properly equipped and trained initial attack crews worked much better than it does now. Once again, re-inventing the wheel in many instances is a waste of time.

Canada is facing a "make-or-break" moment to regulate its oil and gas industry, several global environmental groups say.

More than 250 environmental organizations urged Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to prioritize the matter as MPs returned to Ottawa on Monday.

“Right now, Canada has a make-or-break moment to cap the rising oil and gas emissions that fuel devastating climate impacts like wildfires. The international community is watching closely: Canada must lead with a strong, ambitious cap that will rein in its biggest polluters,” states an open letter sent to Trudeau on Monday.

“Canada cannot claim to be a climate leader unless it tackles its emissions problem.”

Environmental groups are urging the minority Liberal government to fulfil a promise made last November, when Minister of Environment and Climate Change Steven Guilbeault said Canada would have a cap on oil and gas emissions by the end of 2023.

Climate Action Network Canada says the timeline has been pushed back, in large part due to Alberta Premier Daniel Smith and the lobbying efforts of the oil and gas industry.

The organizations, consisting of environmental, labour, health and faith groups, said Trudeau must take action as the leader of a major economy.

“As a major oil and gas exporter, Canada must use every tool in its toolkit to align itself with the global energy transition and immediately end the expansion of fossil fuel production and infrastructure,” the groups said.

Tessa Khan, executive director of Uplift UK, said Trudeau must “stand up” to the oil and gas industry.

Inoculating against deceptive tactics

Some have pushed back against the deceptive tactics, using creative tools to engage and inoculate populations against false information. One such tool is the Cranky Uncle game, an interactive app and web interface that trains people to think critically and recognize old rhetorical tools used to deny science and spread false information.

Backed by extensive research, Cranky Uncle attempts puts you in the shoes of a climate denialist, engaging players with humour to recognize arguments that use fake experts, logical fallacies, impossible expectations, cherry picking, and conspiracy theories.


Its creator, Australian research John Cook of Monash University, says the game targets two audiences. The first are those who are the undecided or disengaged from climate change. By providing accurate scientific information, the game inoculates them against future deceitful messaging. The second audience includes people who are alarmed by climate change, but self-censor when talking with others.

“A primary contributing factor to this self-censoring is fear of pushback and being made to look foolish,” Cook and his colleagues wrote in the journal Environmental Education Research in 2021. “For this group, inoculation provides confidence to discuss the climate change issue despite potential dismissive counter-arguments.

“In this situation, inoculation is not about preaching to the choir — rather, it is about teaching the choir to sing.”

The game, which has now been translated into nine languages, has showed enough promise that UNICEF and others have adapted it to fight back against vaccine misinformation.
