But just after 11 a.m. on Friday morning, the woman said a man showed up at her home claiming to be a CRA investigator. Carrying handcuffs, he threatened to arrest her unless she handed over money in cash.

The woman slammed the door on the man and called 911. According to the police, she was not physically injured in the incident.

Just received a phone call with an automated message saying it was from my credit card company (no actual company name).
It stated I had two suspicious charges on my account, listed them, and then asked me to "press 1" if they were not my charges.

I hung up and called my CC company, and they said it was a scam.

Yes, I got the same call yesterday. It's an automated female voice, speaking english clearly. Naturally, I hung up midway through her spiel.

Interesting isn't it? Now the scammers, too lazy to initiate the calls can wait for the robot to kick "live" bait over to them so they can extract your CC number.

Technology in the hands of crooks. Priceless.
Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice. There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice, at which there is simply no way to become THAT ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.

Anyone else been getting the Stats Canada calls?

Some say it's legit, others say it's not. According to their website, the number is from their Edmonton office.

LOL We just got back from a trip and one of the messages on the machine was all in Chinese! Got the one from "our" CC provider too. Kind of obvious when they don't even say who it is.
