Greta Thunberg: teen activist the climate and eco crisis

Postby Scorp » Aug 15th, 2019, 7:24 am

Here she comes!

"Greta Thunberg's environmentally friendly sailing adventure no pleasure cruise"

http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/greta-thun ... -1.5246332

"By this journey I hope to increase awareness among people, to spread information and communicate the science about what is really going on so people can understand what is really going on with the climate and ecological crisis," she said. "That is what I am hoping to achieve with everything, and that will also lead to international opinions so that people come together and put pressure on the people in power so that they will have to do something."

Well, she has my interest.

Sailing from England to New York for a conference on the environment.

And it's sad that she hasn't lost her trolls in her wake.

Good for her, provides a brief moment of hope that the next generation will get it right, but then you read some of what the troll army has to say and that hope is shattered. Attacking a child on-line is a good indicator of what kind people these trolls are but sadly more and more they're taking up all the air. This is particularly annoying since they're the kind of people who would be proud of themselves for farting in a crowded elevator, yet would still point at the person next to them. They're cowardly miserable people who simply want to share that misery with others in a setting where they won't have to pay the consequences of being a complete :cuss:.

Has anybody here raised teens?

. . . she persuaded her parents to give up eating meat by making them feel guilty. "I kept telling them that they were stealing our future."[22] Her mother also gave up her international career as an opera singer.[20] Despite invitations to speak at international events, Greta also doesn't fly anywhere.[23] (bio above)

Bye-bye old goat Dave, hello Gretta!

In depth article.

Please note how she reacts to trolls.

Greta Thunberg, schoolgirl climate change warrior: ‘Some people can let things go. I can’t’

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/m ... -go-i-cant

. . . Some people consider this a threat. A handful of fossil fuel lobbyists, politicians and journalists have argued Thunberg is not what she seems; that she was propelled into prominence by environmental groups and sustainable business interests. They say the entrepreneur who first tweeted about the climate strike, Ingmar Rentzhog, used Thunberg’s name to raise investment for his company, but her father says the connection was overblown. Greta, he says, initiated the strike before anyone in the family had heard of Rentzhog. As soon as she found he had used her name without her permission, she cut all links with the company, and has since vowed never to be associated with commercial interests. Her family says she has never been paid for her activities. In a recent interview, Rentzhog defended his actions, denied exploiting Greta and said that climate change, not profit, was his motive.

On social media, there have been other crude attacks on Thunberg’s reputation and appearance. Already familiar with bullying from school, she appears unfazed. “I expected when I started that if this is going to become big, then there will be a lot of hate,” she says. “It’s a positive sign. I think that must be because they see us as a threat. That means that something has changed in the debate, and we are making a difference.”

Like I asked, "Has anybody here raised teens?"

I'm talking about how they manage their adults.

When she delivers a speech she can be as unbridled as Trump—except for she’s the @realStableGenius.

“The winner of our Game Changer of the year Award, at the GQ Awards 2019, talks about Donald Trump, activism and her dad”

Greta’s tweet today: fifty-second week of ‘school strike Friday.’

http://twitter.com/GretaThunberg/status ... 1549329409

Man, and I thought I ‘endured’ the Atlantic Ocean when I round-tripped it as a freighter passenger . . ..

And BTW, I have absolutely zero virtues to signal on this thing.

Yeah, I sold the RV two years ago, and I haven’t flown since 2014, but that’s because I have no need to go anywhere.

Also, even though she doesn't care to meet with Donald Trump, I wonder if she'd like to meet with Barron. I'm sure they'd find they have something in common.

Greta's a bit becalmed at sea right now, but she's ‘steaming’ along in the media.

Tracking her journey and messages here (Twitter and Instagram):
http://tracker.borisherrmannracing.com/

I think this would have made for a great school project in Canada this fall. I hope something big is going on in the USA--FridaysForFuture.com. Also I’m enjoying the fact that it’s taking place during the 50 anniversary of the Moon landing, Woodstock, Abby Road . . ..

She would welcome your attention, 1791.

Yes, she’s ‘baiting’ not 'chumming' both sides of the boat. Pffft to 'fish are friends not food.'

“No One Is Too Small To Make A Difference”

Thunberg, Greta

http://orl.bibliocommons.com/item/show/437357111

“You only speak of the green, eternal, economic growth ‘cause you are too scared of being unpopular. You only talk about moving forward with the same bad ideas that got us into this mess, even when the only sensible thing to do is pull the emergency brake. You are not mature enough to tell it like it is. Even that burden you leave it to us children. But I don’t care about being popular. I care about climate justice and the living planet.”
