I remember awhile back, a story hit Castanet about a family complaining about a $1000/mo cel bill.
Good grief!!! Parents have lost touch with reality?

I agree—it’s definitely on the parents to keep track of what their kids are doing with the credit card, especially on apps like TikTok. It’s crazy to lose $12k, but expecting Apple or TikTok to refund that is a bit much. I think it shows how important it is to know how to use these platforms and set up parental controls if needed.

I can't even GUESS how TikTok costs money...for anything.
Thought it was just really short and fast videos of people being stoooooopid in public.

What's next?!?

A link to the story would be helpful.
I'm posting this from Traditional lands of the British Empire & the current Lands of The Dominion of Canada.
I also give thanks for this ethos richness bestowed on us via British Colonialism.

First post has it and it’s an old story. But here’s what happened after.
VANCOUVER -- Parents of a girl who spent thousands of dollars on a social media app will get their money back, a spokesperson for the app says.

The parents, located in Kelowna, B.C., shared their story with media last week as a warning for other families.

They told Castanet.net their daughter, who was 12 at the time, spent $12,000 on TikTok in the spring.

Huge learning lesson for the entire family.
I don't give a damn whether people/posters like me or dislike me, I'm not on earth to win any popularity contests.

I don’t get all of these problems. I don’t have my kids on my credit card but I get everyone to sign up for a very low limit credit card for online purchases. Whether you buy in apps, kindle/kobo books, small Amazon purchases…and especially if you use it for kids. Get one with a $500 limit so that if someone hacks it online you don’t get taken for thousands or if your kids go gangbusters they will not be able to go beyond a manageable amount. This isn’t rocket science, and no one is to blame except the kids and the parents.

Accidents happen, but your kid's not supposed to have been on TikTok under the age of 13, so... tighten up on your parenting y'all.
It's very clear that you need to spend some more time with your kid on a daily basis.
I was a single mom of 3 for 7 years and you can bet your *bleep* I wouldn't be asking for repayment for something I could, and SHOULD HAVE, prevented.
