My vintage 1957 boat restoration project

Post by jimsenchuk »

This is a 1957 13ft wooden fintail boat hand made by a father and son in North Van.(It does have a windshield) Total cost is going to be about 9 grand, that includes the trailer being restored. Should be on the water in Sept 2013

This is the engine, 1957 Johnson Seahorse 35HP with only 100 hrs on it. Engine came with 2 Johnson fuel tanks, all three certified by a marine mechanic.

I used to have a Popular Mechanics magazine that had the story about that boat and plans.

I will post pics after the restoration, or you might see it on the lake before i take pics, either way, you will all get to see this beauty. :)

The boat and trailer cost me 10 bucks, the engine cost me 1,000 bucks, package deal for 1010.00 bucks. Found the ad on kijiji, the gentleman i bought it from had a 10 hp johnson also, same yr 1957(same colors), but would not sell it to me, what a bummer that was.

That would be cool to see and read, the ex owner gave me all the plans for the boat(plans are from a Calif company), owners manual for engine and manual for the trailer. Build it yourself.(trailer was made by OTACO LIMITED of Orillia Ont) I might take the boat to a couple of car shows, maybe someone will want to buy it to go along with their 57 chevy. :)

Jim recognizes the boat, he used to see it for sale on Richter Street, back about ten years ago. He always admired it.

This boat was never in Kelowna, i got it from North Van, where the family has lived all their lives. Last time it was in the water was 1991.

Get the boat back in two weeks, then it's off to get a new windshield and lights put on, getting excited about this now, i asked the restorer not to send me pics on the progress, so he will just show up with it and surprise me, he says i will be in awe of what he's done.
