Oh ya gotta plant spuds.
Grow em under a 6 inch layer of grass clippings.
Which improves earthworm numbers;
Which improves Robin, Blackbird and Flicker numbers,
Which helps eliminate flies and mosquitoes,
Which prevents the spread of the Zeta virus,
Which prevents babies with little heads,

But it can only happen if you plant potatoes.

Blueberries are almost in full leaf. Blackberry canes are budding. Hops are 4 inches out of the ground. Walnuts are budding fast.
Grapes are showing signs of life.
A stellar jay has taken up residency. He joins the countless pile of other birds chirping and screeching looking for a mate.
I started the pond pump up today.
Had to open up the cover more to let some light in for the plants but had to run a number of strips of chicken mesh to keep Hitler the Heron out. He makes hourly runs to the sushi bar.
He knows they're in there but I won't let him help himself.
I'm hearing the odd frog around the property.
I love spring.
It's a bucket load of work tho.

Yes,in the ground doesn't work for me up here. I've missed having those little nuggets for supper so this year I'm trying above ground with my compost soil. Hope it works!

When we first moved here we put a bathtub sized, kidney bean shaped goldfish pond outside of the front door. We thought it was raccoons stealing the odd fish until we saw Hitler through the window enjoying what was obviously one of his "fine dining" spots in the area. We eventually gave the pond away to the neighbor due to the amount of time required to keep it clean.

If you had continued to tidy up your bed every morning like your mother told you to you would not find it so time consuming to completely "resurrect" it at Easter.

The only thing I'm resurrecting this easter is an eleven year old bottle of chardonnay.

I'm going to turn wine into water.

Lol Donald G!

I need some garden time. I'm supposed to be part-time, and I've been working full-time hours the past two weeks. I'm in need of birdsong, dirt under my nails, and dreams of spring and veggies.

Does anyone know where, and when I can find dianthus varieties?

I'm getting quite giddy about planting flowerbeds and veggies at a real house.

A healthy pond will keep itself crystal clear. Just saying.
Sorry to hear about your fish.
Hitler cleaned me out pretty good over the years.
I keep it covered with plywood along the edges and wire mesh over the rest until I turn the water on outside (which is soon) , then I uncover it totally and use a motion activated sprinkler.
Hitler loves the water but he hates the surprise. Every time he lands and gets within 8 feet of the edge he gets a good blast of water. A few days of that and he dissapears. Probably to your pond.
Too bad ya took it out.
