Gardening 2016: Fruits, Veggies, Flowers

Me too and tomatoes are turning green to orange and hopefully to red soon. Zucchini has exploded with flowers. A butternut squash is growing. We are ready to plant another row of radishes.

I pulled out the pea vines today. They were all yellowed and shrunken so the nitrogen had fixed in the soil. I planted yellow and green pole beans in that spot. I do have bush beans growing and flowering but not very many. The baby quail have eaten most of them and they are so cute it is hard to stay mad at them. Have eaten two cukes so far and picked the first zucchini today. I love this time of year!

I've got a tomato colouring up!

Our lettuce is flowering out, Grand Rapid seeds coming up soon! And a new one too, I plan to harvest it too.

Kale seeds are coming in strong. I let them naturally dry right attached to the plant.

I ate the first tomato out of the garden yesterday. Picked bok choy and snow peas for our stir fry tonight.

I don't suppose it helps talking to my tomatoes and telling them "hurry up and ripen already!" No real improvement.

Nope, we tried that.

I did however clean out everything around the tomatoes which are blocking sunlight and stealing water. Out went the coriander, the swiss chard and the summer savory. I've to extra compost to dig in tomorrow and plan to get epsom salts.

We are thinning carrots. Cleaning out a compost bin and I planted the climbing morning glory.

If this woman doesn't like the orchardist using a helicopter to save his livelihood, she shouldn't live near a farm.
That's what downtown apartments are good for.

The leaves on my raspberry vine are starting to bud. Definitely an improvement on last year.

I will be having a bumper crop of blackberries this year

The rain is good because:

1) I don't have to water (and pay for the watering!)
2) QK's rain barrels will be full to overflowing
3) Rainwater is better for my plants than the tap water they would get otherwise.

Anyone else have some good reasons? I'm trying to put a positive spin on this weather

I'm extremely happy with the sudden downpour. It's better since I got in one split second before it started to rain.

Yes, I'm very happy, but also with the fact I'm picking a tomato today. And pulled carrots which self-seeded a year ago.

I love this weather too. I took a walk around the yard yesterday and noticed that it is definitely time for another weeding go round. The weeds are so easy to pull when the soil is moist. Plus I don't get headaches from the intensity of the sunlight!

I'm picking three fresh tomatoes this evening for dinner.

And yes, my garlic is falling over, only five left standing, so I'm thinking I should dig while it's soft soil.

Apricots are coming in like crazyyyyyy, gotta make homemade chutney soon.

I scored four goji berry plants at $2 bux each!
